Hi Guys,

I am collecting a brand new Lamborghini Huracan at month end. Its my first Lambo and first supercar, excited is an understatement!

Anyway being somewhat inexperienced in these realms I was after any general advice for collection day. What should I look for? What can I expect from the dealer? Can others possibly share their experiences of a Lamborghini handover?

Many thanks in advance for your contributions.

Cant wait for the collection and praying for dry weather!

First of all, congratulations!

I hope you enjoy it, they are a wonderful car.

Which dealer have you used?
Thanks, I am looking forward to it.

I have bought through Lamborghini Birmingham. The whole process has been dealt with through email as I work overseas a lot. I have never set foot in the dealership or met any of the staff but the service and their response has been very good thus far.

First off, congrats on getting a new lambo. You'll love it and will be able to enjoy #lifestylelambo rolleyessmile

Mine wasn't new but the handover experience is pretty much just like picking up any car really except with some pictures being taken while sipping on a some nice coffee rather than vending machine crap. We also got pics of the car being prepared as well and a nice little video of it all ready to go with Craig going on about how wonderful it looks and how we will enjoy it. I kind of liked that as like you it's our first supercar and made everything a little bit more special. You sign some paperwork and what not and then the dealer (Pangbourne Lambo) unveiled it. Just make sure you ask how to open the petrol cap thingy smile as you'll be needing to do that a lot. After a quick explanation of how stuff works you'll drive it out of the showroom and you're off. Though I didn't get to do that to mine as it was loaded on the back of the covered truck for it's journey up north.

Oh and in the boot we got a bottle of champagne and the cover that was on the car in showroom. Cheers for that Craig. Nice little touch.
Thanks for your thoughts. It sounds as though you had a pleasant experience. I have met Craig and some of his team before but on this occasion I got a better deal with Lamborghini Birmingham.

Did you try to wrangle any freebies, like clothing, caps etc..?

if you live outside of London then not much can prepare you for the amount of attention you get - you may feel a tad self conscious at times!
I don't live in London and already get attention in my M4 Convertible, I'm guessing a Lambo will be on a whole other level for drawing peoples gaze!

I suppose I should update this with the specification I chose;

LP580-2 RWD Coupe
Bianco Monocerus (FOC white, as I may wrap the car a louder more vibrant colour- any suggestions??)
19" Kari Alloys in gloss black (I like the design of these wheels and my thinking was the ride would be better on UK roads than the 20" upgrades)
Lifting System
Blu Cepheus Ad Personam painted brake calipers
Sportivo Unicolour with alcantara and Blu Cepheus stitching
Alcantara headlining and A-pillars
Steering wheel in alcantara
Navigation
Electric and heated seats
F&R parking sensors and rear view camera
Bluetooth (kind of criminal this isn't standard!)
Cruise control
DAB (As above rolleyes)
Branding pack (Lamborghini embossed on head rests and badge on passenger side of dash)

I think that's it. I didn't go mad but got all the essentials I believe.

Definitely get the car wrapped if you're leaning that way. And get it done asap too, then the paint underneath is as perfect as it's going to be and will stay that way.

Personally I'd be going crazy with something like the purple from the Diablo SE30:

We are on exactly the same wavelength my friend! I love SE30 and also viola parsifae, some of the blues are also great. As wraps they will be far cheaper than the paint from factory and protect the real paint at the same time!

You didn't go for the £400 cup holder then :-)
Haha that seemed to be a bit of a rip off for a luggage net and cup holder, so i passed.

Whats your spec BigR?

So my car has arrived at the dealer and i got sent a couple of pics, however they're very unflattering and look like the salesperson has stood on her head to get some very strange angles! I won't share as they won't do the car justice riding high still on transport blocks lol. biggrin

Huracan Spyder, in grey with orange calipers and orange stitching on an alcantara interior, with the branding embroidery. Plus, all the extras except for the cupholder! This was on the basis that I don't want to encourage that sort of behaviour in my car - bottles of still, non-flavoured water only, allowed.

But I'm also having a couple of dealer fit extras - centre lock black alloys and a new exhaust system. On top of that, I wanted a matt grey colour but was warned off it as if it gets chipped, then you effectively have to respray the whole car to get the blend. I could of course have got it wrapped... However, I've saved myself £10k by instead buying a standard grey and am getting it wrapped in matt PPF, to give the desired effect (or so I'm assured!).

Only 12 sleeps to go - hopefully...

Oh, and as a bit of kudos to my car, check this link - this is my actual car!!!!!!

That sounds fantastic! centre lock wheels and aftermarket exhaust will make it nice and individual. Would love to see it when you have it, maybe a small meet?

I saw the story the other week, that's so cool that its actually your car that was the 8,000th to roll off the line! That will be a great bit of provenance for you to hold onto.

Mine is currently having the wheels and calipers painted and a few other bits and pieces added.

15 more sleeps for me!

I agree with you on getting a wrap, whilst the matte colours and ad personam paints look superb they come at a hefty cost! When you can get protection and virtually the same effect from a wrap at a fraction of the price its a no brainer.

I would have loved a nice metallic blue/ purple hue but talking 10-15k, which in my opinion is too expensive. So stock white for me and I may leave it white for a while and enjoy as is with the dealer Xpel protection.

Get the dealership to get the film applied, they use a great product and will do it on site. White is a great colour and if you fancy a change you can always add a stripe or two later. I'm having my second Aventador off them soon as was plesently surprised by the price of the film. I have had it in my Huracan for 2 years and it's done a great job.
Enjoy the car, personally I wouldn't wrap a new car as for me a wrap looks like what it is a cover up!
Appreciate the thoughts and I am coming around to just enjoying my car as a white car with the dealer Xpel film applied.

£10k+ to wrap a new car? I'd be keeping the colour I ordered too!
I was referring to the cost of the factory paint I had been quoted at 10-15k for different hues. A full wrap should be way less than that but I will start with the car white with the PPF and see how I go.

I did the factory tour a few weeks ago and asked the chap in the Ad Personum area how much for your own paint. The price is about 15k euros. When you consider that you have to pay (I think) 12k Euros for a standard matt paint, it sounds like a veritable bargain! My one gripe I think is that at the moment the dealers don't seem to talk about Ad Personum - rather you have to know about it, ask and push it yourself. Maybe for my next one ;-)

As to a mini meet - I'm game. I want to drive this car, its not going to be a garage queen, for sure. Cars are there to be driven!!!
That's awesome, I would have loved to have done the factory tour. Did you get to see your own car on the line?

Agreed if its your own paint to sample versus their standard offering matte paint then I don't think the uplift is that excessive. I just couldn't justify the cost for the amount of use my car will get and that's not due to wanting it as a garage queen but down to my working commitments overseas!

Whenever i'm in the UK you can be assured I will be using it as much as possible!

Drop me a PM when you have collected your car and we can see about a meet up for some photos and a drive in a nice setting.

Sadly not - I think I was probably only about a day or two too early - maybe I saw my carbon fibre tub but just didn't know it :-( Everytime there was a grey Huracan Spyder on the line the tour guide stopped and checked the order number, but sadly not! The factory tour is well worth doing, however, but do make sure you get your dealer to organise it. The public one costs about 70 euros and I think only lasts an hour or so, not taking in the full shooting match. Whereas the dealer organised one was about 2.5hrs plus some museum time and I get the impression that you see a lot more. Interestingly the factory does charge the dealers for this - no idea how much, but not a freebie they readily dish out by all accounts!
Certainly sounds good. Thanks for the heads up, my dealer did offer arranging it for me but my work commitments wouldn't allow the travel.

What did they tell you about how long it takes to build each car etc.?

Have you seen or considered any of the Academia driving tours? They look superb but certainly not cheap, I was maybe considering one for summer 2018.

Some highlights that I can remember...

- 35 days to build the car - so that's from creating a tub to exiting the factory.
- They produce 12 Huracan's per day and 5.5 Aventador's, but they seem to have got excited and are now doing 6 of the latter
- its really regimented on the line i.e. 37 mins for each car at each station for the Huracan, 2 x 11min coffee breaks etc... Compared to a volume production outfit though, I think it was pretty relaxed! Having coincided with an 11min break during my visit, it seemed to be that the reach for the mobiles was instinctive, but maybe that's just my observation on human life these days!!
- as soon as the car is off the line, they take it on the public roads and do 50km+. Then they bring it back, switch the tyres, do any adjustments, check the paintwork etc... before shipping
- they're bringing the paintwork in-house as the underlying message was that it took too long and quality standards were a bit problematic - perhaps having to send things back or re-do themselves
- a new line is being built in a new building for the Urus. They're recruiting another 500 staff for this, taking it to 2000 on site

Beyond that, you need to really see for yourself - or I'll spoil too much of it. Oh, and no photos allowed.

I did have a look at the snow driving, which looked fun - but then equally I wasn't compelled because of the price point on it. Perhaps another time... Craig has mentioned about the September driving tour he does - it won't happen this year for me due to work, but perhaps next year!

Final thought, have you put a deposit down for a Performante? I decided to on the basis that it is refundable. I'm less likely than likely to go ahead with it, but 'just in case'...
Thanks so much for the insight, it sounds very interesting and certainly something I will have to appreciate for myself during Lamborghini ownership.

I agree the driving tours look very pricey and could be money better spent elsewhere. I was planning on a road trip into Scotland in July but that has now been cancelled due to change in circumstance. However, I may consider a blast over the Beacons and Evo Triangle as Wales isn't as far. Likely to be second week of July for an overnighter maybe.

I have enquired through my dealer about the Performante, they have confirmed their allocations for this year. I may put a deposit down on the Performante Spyder when I collect my 580.

Not long now... biggrin

Well collection happened yesterday!

Unfortunately it drizzled with rain most of the day, but that didn't detract from a fantastic experience and handover with Lamborghini Birmingham.

I was making my first visit to the dealership having completed the whole ordering process through email. Order to delivery took exactly 6 months and I must say when you can specify your own car from the factory exactly how you want, the wait is worth it!

Ellie was a pleasure to deal with and Chris (Dealer principle) was very welcoming and intent on ensuring my handover was flawless. I was treated to lunch and very nice coffee throughout my time their and even got a personal one to one with the G-Techniq product rep, who talked me through the best way to maintain my car with the ceramic coating as applied.

The paperwork side of things was very painless and efficient, again top marks to Ellie for having everything prepared.

I then had a great first drive home with my father in convoy driving my M4. The attention I got on the motorways was unreal and all very positive- people opening passenger windows and sticking heads out and thumbs up! Open mouth gazes from children and adults alike!

I will be displaying my car at Goodwood FOS on Saturday. Lamborghini Birmingham have been great in organising full VIP access for my father and I.

I literally spent the whole day shaking with excitement and had the sweaty palms! Even when I got home yesterday evening I just stood on the drive looking at the car for ages! I'm sure you guys understand haha.

Anyway I will now see if I can add some pics..
