Hey,

Just ordered the capristo exhaust for my incoming 2014 r8 v10 spyder, just wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with capristo for the r8. I want to know how it sounds at lower rpm or do i have to give it the full beans. As my bentley sounds lovely at lower rpm (due to custom exhaust) am i gonna miss the lower rpm sounds with the r8.

Appreciate the feedback

hondansx- yea as the exhaust is valved controlled its linked to the sport button, so i assume that must be kept on at all times biggrin.

Wills2- does your friends v8 sound loud even at low rpm? i think the lower rpm sounds on the v8 are better then the v10. Otherwise i will have to be flooring it at every opportunity lol.

Why is it a problem and why is it artificial?

I would have thought keeping the noise down at low speed was a good thing.
I know I certainly preferred bi mode on my Z06 to when it was always loud.
Yea totally think it should be left on loud at all times. Do you have an after market exhaust on your Z06? I'm sure they sound lovely at any rpm.

I have a Capristo system on my R8 V10 and couldn't be happier. The remote essentially has 3 modes; valves closed, valves open at a predetermined rev count and vales open permanently. There is also a mode whereby you can program the system yourself and customise when the valves open Not something I've tried though.

The sound at low rpm with the valves open is pretty raucous and best used out of built up areas. lol.
I hope you keep the valves open permanently wink
Great to hear your happy with the results. I didn't opt for the optional remote as i wanted it to work along side the sport button which opens up the valves as standard so thought the capristo should enhance that a little biggrin

How do you find driving at low speeds? I am trading my bentley gt in for the r8 which sounds lovely at slow speeds, i get the feeling the v10 requires giving it the full beans for the intoxicating sound?

Off road headers, compete custom system, it was too loud to be fully open all the time
Much preferred the option
Unlike NSX, I really liked the sound of the valves opening, but we all like different things

This is just at tick over using a mild to wild switch, huge difference

Wow when the valves open! sounds very angry. Keep it open at all times biggrin

I have a Capristo on my Gallardo which has broadly the same engine, and I'd recommend you do it. biggrin

The valves in mine open at 3,800rpm, but also seem to open at lower RPM on wider throttle opening (I'm guessing high inlet manifold vacuum).

You soon learn to play tunes with the throttle pedal. earsthumbup
Now that must sound incredible! Would love to hear the capristo on the Gallardo.
I am sure i will be playing a medley with the throttle pedal wink.

Don't see many california t with a capristo exhaust. Be great if you could post a clip of the cali making some music with the new exhaust

did you look at the one at essex? its a year older and done 12k but looks really cheap... wondering whats wrong with it?
Which one is that, out of interest? At Essex Prestige?
I did see that one, its the one at the Audi dealership also, that car has been reduced a number of times i was going to enquire about that particular one but at the time my one was a year newer and had only 6k miles and was not much more in price. The Audi dealer said to me every 4-6 weeks they review there prices and clearly there probably hasn't been much interest hence the price drop. Seems like a steal at that current price for an s tronic v10 spyder! cant see it dropping much more over the next few years. Even 2010 spyders with under 20k miles are mid 60s.

I fitted mine 2 years ago to my 2015 V10 (Gen 1), it's the valved version with a remote control fob, so every time i start the engine i manually open the flaps (Ooooerr missus..). It can be programmed to start with the flaps open, but this is too noisy at 6am on a cold Scottish morning. At low revs It's much more noisy than the standard silencer, even more so at high revs.

It's not an exotic F1 sound, more guttural and angry, but still addictive, i tend to drive with the window cracked open all year round!

I could post a youtube video i made if i can find it!
I am sure your missus appreciates the cold start form the capristo wink in the cold mornings!
I was initially thinking of the remote but opted out for it as i wanted it to work with the sport button, Do you know if you can start the engine in sport mode on to open the valves? picking up my car this Friday and capristo exhaust fitting on Monday!

That would be great if you upload a clip? Do you know if there are any difference between the sounds from preface lift r8 (before 2012) and the facelift r8 v10? just because most of the youtube videos of r8v10 with capristo are pre facelift.

cheers

It's not the best video compared to the others i've seen:

R8 V10 Capriso

The engine cannot start in sport-mode, well mine doesn't anyway!

Personally I wouldn't use the sport button to open the valves as i rarely use it these days, kinda out-grown the auto-downshift-blip that comes with it. The other feature of the sport-button is you can hit the rev-limiter (Using the paddles), in non-sport mode it will change up for you so you don't embarrass yourself when completing a heroic over-take biggrin

PS. i'm certain there's no difference in sound between pre/post face-left models, i have the Plus variant and it sounds the same a standard V10.

Lovely motor looks great in that blue and that noise of the acceleration is amazing, now i really can't wait!

wow you fitted the exhaust yourself? i also purchased my exhaust from scuderia parts but they are fitting it for me this Monday. I will try upload a video of a few accelerations from inside and out preferably through a tunnel!

lol I'm sure i will be hitting the rev limit a few times once the capristo is on.
