997S to Gallardo Opinions Please
Discussion
Newbie Here.
I’ve had a Carrera 997S for the past six months and had a C4S before that. I’ve got bit of a thing about Gallardo’s lately and was wondering if anyone can give me some advice regarding points that are concerning me:-
1. Insurance – I’m 27 with full no claims and previous experience last 6 years driving high performance cars. I live in low risk area and car is garaged. I currently pay around £1200 for the 997S but got a quote from my insurer for a Gallardo and they want £5000! Is this the going rate or can I do better than that?
2. Transmission/Options – should I be looking for an e-gear or a manual? I don’t really like autos so I’m leaning towards a manual car. I’ve heard of clutch problems – does this affect manual and e-gear cars or just e-gear cars? Also is it true that it costs £6000 to replace a clutch and this is covered by warranty even for low mileage cars? What are the options to look for?
3. Price – What should I be looking to pay? What’s the best price for a very lightly used example? Prices seem to vary hugely – Lots of cars just over the £100k mark – what’s the best price for a new one?
4. Depreciation – The thing I’ve liked about the Porsches is that Depreciation has been very low. How will Gallardo prices hold up long term? Can’t see them dropping to 997 money for a few years – so possible depreciation on a car that cost say £100k likely to be around £10k per year?
5. Finance – My 997S has no finance on it so if I used this as deposit what is the best way to finance the outstanding amont?
6. 997 Turbo – worth waiting for?
If anyone has an option price list they could email me this would be most appreciated.
Any Gallardo owners care to comment? Anybody on here gone from 911 to Gallardo?
Many Thanks
