Hi folks.
First time coming on here and looks like a friendly place to be. Hopefully end of summer I should be in the position to purchase my first supercar. With a budget of around 80k for a weekend toy. it brings quite a few options to the table
Ferrari F430
Lamborghini Gallardo
Audi R8 plus gen2
They are my top 3 I have ruled mclaren out due to all the bad press and story’s
I love the look of F430 but starting to look very dated inside now.
The gallardo I cant seem to get my head round the old Audi switch gear.
The R8 seems to be amazing value for money for what it is.
What’s people thoughts? And where would your money be going?

Thanks for the warm welcoming reply’s.
I will take a look at the links you have listed above, thank you
I do love the look of a mclaren but the story’s I have heard and the cost of warranty has just scared me into a corner to be honest.
I went to look at a F430 last weekend at gray Paul’s. And it was stunning but sitting inside and the to the side pedal position felt abit odd and the dated interior but hey it is a Ferrari

I should prob point out I can’t drive a manual car because of an accident and it needs to be semi comfortable.
My main points would be for something I can take out at weekends. Maybe the odd day in the week if the weather is nice. It won’t do massive mileage 2-3k a year I would guess. I don’t really want something that’s going to be cost me and arm and a leg at each service. Or because things need changing as it getting old which is what puts me off Gallardo/f430. Do love the look of a McLaren but the horror story’s and aftercare really do scare me into a corner. 3kplus a year for warranty also seems quite a lot compare to some other males

Thanks for all the reply’s folks.
I have had some warranty prices back
And McLaren are saying 2500 for 570s
And around 1200 for a service.
Rybrook McLaren
Audi R8 £850 for 24months warranty which to me seem very cheap am I missing something?
And £440 for a inspection and service again seems very cheap. Synter Audi
That’s half the running costs per year on an R8 vs McLaren which to me just speaks out get an Audi.
I do get the r8 isn’t quite as flashy as the main brands. Which to be honest I don’t mind.
Have had a Porsche before in Miami blue and that was badly vandalised one night why just sat on my drive.
So although I love nice flashy cars. I am not fully sure I want something that stand out a million miles. Although it will be garaged now

Ok so I have had an email back after probing abit more and think they was trying to sell me the short straw to be honest
Audi R8 2017 model costs
Minor service is £440
Major is £895
Full cover warranty is £2900 a year which is the same cost as a mclaren give or take 100 quid
Frustrates me people can’t give you a straight answer straight away.
I am a big Porsche fan and love the brand but wanted to make a step to super car instead of sports car

True however in a McLaren, a warranty seems almost mandatory, in an R8 it definitely isn't. I'd the money in a fund for a rainy day each year and see how you get on, especially if doing low mileage.
Wife had just said the same thing to me. I suppose because it will be my biggest ever car purchase I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing before I dive infootsoldier said:
I just bought a 2017 R8 Spyder, not plus, for £80k. 2 years warranty and the next service and MOT done 3 months early. the 2 years deal wa available before 31/12 on all Audis from dealers. Even now, you will still get the next 12 service done and 12 months warranty from a dealer rather than a specialist, which is worth remembering (transferable Audi warranty including breakdown recovery)
Didn't buy for same reasons as you - wanted something that was interesting but useable, to put miles on this summer in Europe, and maybe leave it in the odd airport carpark! Ideal to have something that goes like a supercar, looks cool but not too attention seeking, and works with Apple CarPlay! (If 2017 onwards)
FWIW, I've owned a Gallardo before, and IMO there is zero point buying a 10-12 year old Gallardo at same money, unless for badge. (maybe Mk1 Superleggera would be the exception). Having said that, if you just want your first supercar to be a Lamborghini, instead of an Audi, that makes sense too!
However, new R8 is much better, easier and cheaper to run, and the engine is obviously mega. The Spyder party trick is dropping the rear window with hood still up, so you get full sound effects.
The latest, latest R8s all suffer from the GPF sound deadening, so I think the ones currently around £80k will hold value well, when people realise they are really the last of the screaming V10s. (same thing applies to F8 Tributo, Huracan Evo, 991.3RS etc - they are all launched as a cover for the muted engines now required. Different topic...
Had a 991 Turbo last year, and found it very dull by comparison (engine mainly)
Other £80k car I thought about - Ferrari 550, but different proposition and more risky!
Interesting review thank you. Do you know what seat option is in yours and did you try the other seats? Didn’t know anything about the GPF thing. I was looking at 16/17 plate plus. Seem to be some reviews about odd suspension on the pre 66plate cars being bouncy over bumps Didn't buy for same reasons as you - wanted something that was interesting but useable, to put miles on this summer in Europe, and maybe leave it in the odd airport carpark! Little update.
I went to my local Audi and Ferrari place today. Didn’t have a test drive just spent a while sat in them to see how I felt. The F430 did feel very special to be sat in but did find the offset pedal position did upset my back a little and I can imagine over a decent drive I would be very uncomfortable
The Audi had the bucket type seats in and from what I have read can be uncomfortable. I did however find them quite comfortable and very supportive. Had a great driving position with really good visible. The virtual cockpit is a lovely thing to look at.
The warranty isn’t £850 as they stated I’m email it’s actually £2900 for the top warranty per 12 months. Which to be honest I wouldn’t bother with and just keep some money in the bank.
I need to try do some research on the must have options
