Right Everyone - especially the Basingstoke PHers - you know who you are!

Since the success of the last "Basingstoke PHers Pie And Drive" (where was the pie?) I have been pestered (in the nicest possible way) for another one.

And thanks to *Simont* and *whatever* (hurrah) here it is!

June 29th (Saturday) 12:00noon in the car park of an old Country Mansion (Worting House) on the edge of Basingstoke we'll gather for a photo-opportunity. Fancy a nice piccie of your car in front a proper Hampshire redbrick mansion? Now's your chance.

We then set off at about 1:15pm via a scenic route through rural Hampshire backroads to the village of Vernham Dean. Full route maps can be found below but hopefully you shouldn't need them as we intend to travel in convoy again!

When we arrive at about 2:00 to 2:15pm group parking at the fete has been organised. The cars will be one of the fete attractions! There will be BBQ/Hog Roast and range of country entertainments on offer. I'm bringing along a couple of chairs, a little table and lashings and lashings of ginger beer - or something like that anyway! .

For those that fancy a beer Vernham Dean has the George.

When the entertainments of the fete begin to pale we can once again scatter to the four winds with only the fading sounds of rumbling engines to mark our passing.

Full details can be found here:
www.dwmhughes.demon.co.uk/VernhamDean/boydidwehaveagoodtime.htm

If any arrangements need to be updated I will post them on this thread.

So. You came to last one. Will you come to this one? Simont, whatever and I are sticking our necks out again so please, please come along. You'll have a good time. I promise.

Sorry you won't be making it, plotloss. Next time, I hope.

Could people who want to come post on this thread so we have a rough idea of how many. I'd like to be able to tell the fete organiser it'll be so many cars (ish).

Just so everyone remembers what fun the last one was.....

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?p=1&f=65&t=8313&h=0&hw=Basingstoke+PHers

Oh. I have sent out a few e-mails to people who came along last time. If I've missed you please don't be offended - perhaps your profile doesn't enable e-mails or you'd already posted here etc etc.

Just making sure anyone who might want to come has the opportunity.

All the best to everyone. Hope to see you there!

Cool. If you follow the web-links from the original post or these ones they'll take you to a few web-pages I sorted out which describe the Start Point and also the route in a lot of detail.

By the way. Could everyone use our Event Listing thingy that Ted gave us. Then we'll know whose coming and how many cars to do parking for...

Simont, Whatever and I just got back from hooning up some B-roads errrr doing some reconaissance.

Well. Boys and Girls. Do we have a treat for you. The Overton/Whitchurch/BitOfALongWayRound section is a *hoot*. The rest is *very* scenic indeed.

Some of the villages we pass through will require a bit of patience though as there is the classic problem of village street parking - but nothing is a problem.

We will have a smashing spot to park in at the fete...Simont will be there to guide us in. All we have to do is line up!

We will need to get there for about 1:30pm, though. So I will be adjusting the schedule over the weekend to fit as I've left the start a little late.

All sorts of grub will be available at the fete...so it should be excellent.

I can't wait. Oh...and its the Tuscans at Brands on the Sunday. What a weekend!

It now sits at the correct ride hieght with about 85-90mm ground clearance.

There is one little spot where there is a small bump at Worting House where we have our photo-op that might cause you a problem. You'll have time to look at it before needing to drive your beastie over it - all the rest should be fine - so you'll be OK.

Schedule update later on today...

Are non-TVR driving, non-Basingstoke residing, former TVR owning traitorous turncoats invited?

If you're going to bring along that utterly splendid Marcos then YOU BET! My cousin-in-law Phil has a wonderful deep blue one of those....hmmmn Head-Turning-Competition for ultimapaul's Ultima GTR....

Its very well organised.

I'm blushing. Especially as on this occasion the guys with the ideas are whatever and Simont.

On the organisation front. Has everyone been able to view the maps and print them out if they need them? As usual I will print some copies and bring them along but it would be helpful if anyone who needed them already had 'em.

Really looking forward to it now.....

I would like to come along, but what reaction will I receive driving a non TVR?

I am a friendly chap, but any utterances of "max power" or "Barry boy" and I am off!

Well...

Its not all TVRs. I have invited our Porsche owning friends. I am expecting a particularly fine Marcos and a rather splendid Ultima GTR.

You are therefore most welcome along on the run! (If you want to drive all the over from Suffolk that is!)

I got asked this last time and...

Clearly the cars are an "attraction" at the Vernham Dean village fete. For "display" purposes at the far end its the exotica that will provide the entertainment. For that reason (and NO OFFENCE) if your not bringing something exotic you might need to park it up with the regular fete-goers.

If its an exotic (no cars in your profile for me to tell) then NO PROBLEM.

The PHers will largely be driving TVRs.

Up to you. But don't feel you can't come.

I am all for TVR's, in fact I have wanted one ever since I was about 16, but I wouldnt call them (NO OFFENCE) exotica! Maybe the Tuscan though....

Glad you took it the right way.

And you'll be welcome. Will you be coming over?

What the ground like?I am thinking of bringing my 'flatnose',it doesn't have much ground clearance!to say the least.
Steve

We've checked it out and neither my Chimaera or my Boxster had any trouble. My Boxster has a pretty low front skirt. There is ONE little hump I can think of near our photo-op that *might* cause *very* low slung cars a little trouble.

whatever will be taking his Cerbera over it so I think you should be OK. You will have the chance to check it over visually first anyway.

The actual run itself is (for the very most part) quality B road. We have deliberately avoided the *really* tiny little unclassified roads (some of which I took people down on the last Pie and Drive and it was OK!).

There are some bends with gravel on the side of them - so don't wander into it! Preserves everyone's paintwork!

The route is largely a scenic one - with some quick bits for a restrained bit of fun. Since we'll be in convoy anyway you can't really go at high speed. Its a relax and enjoy the day out job.

BTW: I'm sure a rare Porsche like yours would interest the fete-goers - it'd be great if you can make it!

Nice one

CarZ (may I call you, CarZ, Mr CarZee?) - good point. It'd be handy if people signed up using the link above just to help with knowing how long any photo-op manouvering is likely to take: also it'd help Simont with roping off the parking area...

The Sun is Shining! May it shine on fete-day on the gleaming results of a bit of pre-fete polishing.

I'm rather looking forward to it all - now its in sight...
