This topic has been done to death but perhaps having a concise thread with a decent set of opinions/advice may help - and i got bored looking for good info. Feel free to point me elsewhere if theres something already done in this vane..

So... NC500:

  • How long should you dedicate for the driving (hours per day, or how many days to do the entire 500)
  • Where is best to stay? Can you camp?
  • What should you ensure you do/see?
  • What should you not bother doing/seeing?
  • Anyone have any good maps/routes?
  • Any other tips/suggestions from those with experience?

NC500 may be done to death on here but having done it this year (or most of it) it is a really good trip. The one thing that you can't get away from though is that it takes 10 hours to get to the start and it is nigh on impossible to get accommodation to coincide with the route you have planned - regardless of your budget. Even with 2 months advance notice we had to radically change our initial idea. So the moral of the story is plan well ahead or have a look out for Yorkshire 500 which is being launched for next year. I hear that they are going to provide a full booking facility. Not quite the scenery but some stunning roads and its a hell of a lot nearer (and cheaper!)
Would you be willing to share any suggestions/recommendations for accommodation/route/distances?
