Join PH at Silverstone Classic!

There are some huge anniversaries to celebrate at this year's Silverstone Classic - here's how to be there

We're pretty big fans of historic racing at PistonHeads. It might have something to do with the unmistakable rich smell of oil and petrol, the sensational sounds, the sight of almost priceless metal and the up-close access that it offers. It's why we travel around the UK and Europe to attend nostalgic classic racing events; we can't get enough.

This year, we're excited to announce that PistonHeads are going to be at the Silverstone Classic, 26-28 July. The event has grown at a phenomenal rate since its inception in 1990, to become the world's largest classic motor racing festival. It combines incredible historic motor racing with family-friendly entertainment across three days, with 1,000 drivers competing as 100,000 attendees looked on in 2018.

What's happening
Starting with the cars, there's more than £600 million worth taking part, from 1920's grids to modern Endurance racing LMP1 sunset grids, with all racing taking part on the legendary Grand Prix circuit. A highlight of many historic events compared to mainstream modern racing is that you get free access to the paddocks and grandstands. To be able to get up close to these cars is simply incredible.

You will find us at the centre of the action in the infamous PistonHeads pub, the Pie & Piston. We'll be taking over the Paddock Café with a display of 20 iconic PH cars and a member display area for eligible cars. Our 20 car icon display will epitomise PH -but we need your help. If you think you've got a car we'll be interested in, then share it with us on this thread. Our chosen members will receive complimentary tickets and a PH goodie bag. Members with eligible cars have access to exclusive packages; more information on that below.

If the racing isn't already enough, there will be vintage funfair rides, a shopping village, displays from more than 100 car clubs, interactive demonstrations and live music concerts. Across the Friday and Saturday evenings, bands will perform the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Joe Cocker, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, Sly and the Family Stone, Ten Years After and The Who to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Woodstock.

Camping is available at the Classic and is a huge part of the family experience with full facilities including food, music and entertainment. It's just a stone's throw from the circuit, so you can enjoy a couple of pints at the Pie & Piston without having to worry about driving to a hotel at the end of the day.

We'll be running a competition next week where you could win one of ten pairs of weekend tickets, so sign up to our promotional emails here to make sure you don't miss out.

What is it like getting in and out? Are there long queues?

Didn't go last year, but they have been very long if you come from the Banbury side about 9-10 am - often tailing back to Brackley on the A43 and taking 45 min or more. They only had one lane open at the top of the sliproad form the A43 and stopped everyone as soon as one car vaguely approached from the other direction.

If you're coming the other way they seem less, and if you come though the backroads from Stowe house it used to be easier or use the lanes and come in via Silverstone Vilage.
Thanks - what about getting out again?
