Mille Miglia advice

I am looking at doing this with a friend who has done this before. He's since had a heart operation and is not allowed to drive, so I'd be driving. What are good sources of advice?

We'd be competing. Currently shopping for an eligible car.

I'm really looking for a book by someone who has done it. Not a "ooh, look at all those amazing cars" type book.

The aim is to be slow and reliable.

It didn't happen. Maybe next year but seems unlikely.
