Thanx for all the kind words guys, and I'm so glad you all had a nice weekend. Was a bit worried about the weather but it turned out really well apart from the last leg in the Achterhoek. Great fun though!

Agreed we did good work: route was a bit long maybe but the variation was to our satisfaction. An easy 1st day and a more spirited driven 2nd.

And Dan: no worries about TVRs 80s quality products. The soundbyte made up for this and besides that I like a car that can be felt proper. Seats are superb. Thanx again for having me, I enjoyed it big time!

I also had a great time in Stephens 968: thanx for that! More of that later (mini-reviews) - but in advance: amazingly stiff and both comfortable car with a dual experience engine. The 3 litre four is so easy and relaxed but becomes angry when on cam and pulls like a train almost VTEC-like.

The Old Skool Jap Skyline was a complete riot: bloody awesome machinerie and so well sorted it makes a period Lamborghini shy when it comes to AWD roadhandling. It really does! Glad to see the little axle problem sorted out quick and without hassle.

DSR11: 3 days of Blighty roads if Joop would agree. Brainstorming starting somewhere in the autumn me thinks.

I'll drop a few snaps every day and will try to add a few words as well.

Cheers! A.

Hook, 9:30:

Apparently this years theme was red. Here the loudest - gulp! - and the most quiet - Swiss pipes! - cars of our bunch: Ollies 600 brake Monaro weapon and Steve 'n Sallies beautifull red C5.

The Simmons' 2000 Spider as a repoussoir here. Aram is admiring Elcos amazing AWD Skyline missile.

All fueled up and ready for the first leg. As some needed 98 octane quality we could not fill up everywhere.

Inne and Peter amazed with their quick 147 V6 GTA. Not the most thirsty of the bunch so it was on gueard here.

Stephens 968 variocammed 3 litre supplies for 240 brake to haul the 1370 kgs car around. His amazing car is large but feels way smaller. Almost Lotus like roadhandling, although with a higher centre of gravity.

Corvair engine trivia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Corvair_eng...

About 5 snaps a day OK?

First lunch at Zandvoort track restaurant:

Joop laughs at how (many times) Dan takes out his doors upholstery to fix his window. TVRs . . .

David and Luts' nice 2000 Spider fired up for the 2nd leg. Trouble free motoring with this new aquisition.

Dan, Inne, Peter, Joop. Stephens 968 is an amazing car. Not many are made since Porsche was doing not so good early 90s - recesession - and decided to drop everything in their current range in favour to further develop the 911-idea. Ah well . . . together with the 2nd incarnation of the 928 Stephens car is amongst my fav pieces of Pork.

"Errr guys, I need some petrol?"

The more I come to think of it Joops comfy 325i Coupe - stunning piece of kit - could well be the best compromise for a run like this. Aram took the passenger seat and I wonder what his thoughts are on the car.

More soon.

Yup, many thanks to Albert and Joop for an excellent DSR 10. Great to see some more of the Netherlands. Here are just a few shots from the trip.

Cheers Steve 'n Sally. It was great to have you on again.

FYI: there's a huge flock of DSR10-snaps on Facebook. Sally told me she was on FB but did not use it much. May come in handy as a usefull timewaster now wink

From Zandvoort on we went further up north - for most unknown territory - through the Bloemendaal Northsea BlvD, Kenemerduinen, passing rich mans villages and on to IJmuiden. Through Corus steel factories straight to the tulipfields Sophie loves so dearly. It was a bit of sightseeing really, not so much need for speed. Wot? Almost 3? Lunchtime again wink

We had a table inside this shack. Fortunately the sun still shone to enjoy a glass outside with a view on the massive dune that comes straight into the village Schoorl.

I hopped in Stephens very well sorted 968 Porker - a fav, next to the 2nd gen 928 - and enjoyed it to bits. It's GTish rather than a hardcore sportscar. The massive built quality adds to the experience: the car feels rock solid, as Aram would agree.
With David and Lut in the Alfa in front of us the skies looked promising.

Or didn't they?

With the Afsluitdijk ahead we felt the urge to make some progress . . . As we did together with Ollie 'Santa Pod' Monaro. No match . . .

King of the hill.
Sunday I was co-piloting in Elcos Skyline: my money would be on the Jap in a q-mile. One day we will know.
Maybe August 21st: http://www.dutchquartermile.com/

The little 2000 spider looks right on the money here.

That's how I do it Stephen: my Spa6-blog is running since early October and will have its last photo-update this eve wink

Butch!

The sound of the wide open spaces.

Our fleet attracted the few Monument visitors. Unlike Autobahn parkings we did not see one copper here.

Loving the C5 silhouette. Joop working on Dans 350i.

Chimaera R&R!

More to come . . .

Top effort Elco, thanx!

A few captions:
> The run to IJmuiden pier I was with Stepens stiff 968. At 0:16 secs we shot by as a bit unaware of the fact we had opposite traffic. Oopsy.

> 0:38 we pass the canal to Amsterdam. The route across the sea-sluice is one way traffic: happy we did not have a Murcielago with us! The houses at 1:02 are actually a residential area . . .

> 2:00 I think this is Santpoort. Only rich people living there. Watch the buss at 2:30: narrow escape!

> at 2:57 we enter our first lunch stop at the Zandvoort track.

> 5:01 Kennemerduinen :cough:

> 6:23 it turned out to be a wonderfull day as the dark clouds faded away and made way for sunny skies. Still at touristic pace to enjoy the colourfull tulip fields.

> 8:50 entering our 2nd lunch stop at Schoorl dunes.

Our quest for 98! Pretty dramatic skies on that first legge.

2nd day was a bit quicker eh? Even a few tunnels, although not as loud as the Wassenaar one . . .

Well done, enjoyed it as a play back memory.

Some got up high to enjoy the seaview. Oddly enough most Dutch never go here, simply because there's next to nothing to do in this area.

Snapping our convoy from the mirror of a 383 CanAm Ultima is a bit easier to do! Joop taking it easy for good reasons.

"Filling up is for the big V8s mate, we're just fine!"

"And so are we. We didn't filled up since before Hook."

Electric Vette this . . .

Hoodie came in handy as it was just a bit colder than the two previous DSRs.

Duke dazzled by the speed of that fuelcells needle . . .

Tank and win a Ford Ka! Think of it Ollie . . . New FB profile snap me thinks wink

Not original but IMO the right hue for a Pork wheel.

Huge pipe on a huge fourpot.

Enjoyed the ride in this quite a bit. Imagine a relaxed 236HP@6200 and 225lbft@4100 in front of you. The variocammed four offers effortless power with only 'that urgent noise' at toprevs. Stephen switched gear (6) more often than I would as the plant appeared to have nuff torque at whatever revs. But hey, what do I know?
I looked it up and found there even are a few 300 brake / 369 lbft turbo-version of this out there. Mmmmmh. A 968 would make an excellent and sensible new-timer. With 1400 kgs this is a car that should have had a way higher production, but Porsche decided otherwise . . .

Maybe think again you German lot?

Nice shoot Joop!

This is how 500+ straight six turbo horses look like.

Elco nursing the 6.

Aram spoiling yet another picture . . .

Thank you Sophie for switching from Skyline to 350i for this occasion.

"Yes, we've had enough pies now thank you!"

I'm back to my regular weight now BTW.

Saturday: HARC historic races at Zandvoort. Will post linky to the album: camera is back to my regular settings!!!
