Just wondering what the most powerful straight NA cylinder engine without any variable valve timing or vtec etc is.
I.e excluding the B16s sr16ve's and k20s out there.
Has to have been in a production car so no bttc ones and so on.
Off the top of my head i cant think of one more powerful than a
Xu10j4rs at 167hp. I did think the st170 engine first but i think that has vvt?
Any ideas all?

Good point. Although they are 3.0 or more right?

Change of rules. 2.0 or less

Yeah. No mods. As it was sold.
A XU10J4rs is a 2.0 so its 88.5hp per litre

Surely some of the Vauxhall engined Caterham's had closer to 300bhp ?

Here even a Duratec version is claiming 260+ from a 2.0

The ford ones have varible cams smile good should though.
I think the destroked m3 is still the winner
There must be more between the Zx dakar/xsara vts/306 gti6 XU10J4RS and the m3 engine though as theres a fair bit of power between them.
