Somewhat interesting episode of Wheeler Dealer last night and that XK8 (the one with the stupid numberplate s10nby or something?)

Anyhow I see on PH we've talked about the terraclean system before but inconclusively as far as I can tell.

It seems Ed was really doing a bit of an advert supposedly HC figures were decimated by the process, I find it incredibly hard to believe it worked like that and probably it was cold at the beginning then warmed up and op temp at the end (HC dropped from like 500 to 50 or something)

Was thinking about taking my XJR over there, dyno on the way, emissions test at his garage before (when warmed up from the drive) and after, then dyno again on the way home.

Waste of time? Or is there a chance it'll have a positive effect?

I rev it up hard and often and rarely drive in traffic, usually >80 miles per trip, often 200+ so definitely not a victim of driving miss daisy.

Interestingly the aerosols seemed to have black (satin black?) tape around them towards the bottom (or top whilst inverted), thought that was hiding branding.

But is Ed involved with the company? I see youtube vids of him interviewing a "happy customer"

Is it wrong that I was very disappointed by the lack of plumes of smoke from the Jaguar while the process was going on? With all the supposed crap being cleared I was expecting/hoping to see an absolute fog engulfing the workshop.
Definitely I thought exactly the same

Of course catalysts don't store oxygen they allow the oxygen present to react with unburned hydrocarbons as the gases pass through

Interesting spacers though.

I saw the before & after using a bore scope, I have to say it was impressive.
Do you have anything substantial here to help us believe you're not Edd's mum?

Sure about that??? ;-)
Certain. The precious metals provide a surface on which reactions happen. So I suppose in a sense they provide receptors for holding the reactions momentarily but nothing is "stored".

Have I been whooshed? smile

You're wrong. If there are partially burnt hydrocarbons in the exhaust, it implies there is no oxygen left, so how could the cat possibly oxidise anything?

Three way cats work by storing excess oxygen during the weak cycle and then using it to oxidise the hydrocarbons during the rich cycle. This fits in very nicely with the way that narrow band oxygen sensors require a control scheme to oscillate either side of stoich.
Well every day's a school day, thanks for this. I'll do a bit more reading now.
