VW Golf Diesel Engine Overheating Warning Light

Our golf displayed an engine overheating warning and said we need to pull over immediately. This happened twice. We took it to the garage but they haven't been able to see the same issue either in the ecu or manually.
Has anyone had a similar issue? I'm going to take it to a different garage but it would be great to know what caused the same issue for anyone else. I think it's a 2013 plate
