Managed to break my Freelander LSD diff on my Fisher Fury R1 on a Rockingham trackway yesterday. It was making a nasty grating sound (like splines grating over each other) then I lost all drive on track. Now when I push the car the drive shafts obviously turn but the propshaft doesn't!

Can anyone recommend where I can get this rebuilt/exchanged or find a replacement and what typically breaks causing the above symptoms?

I've used B K Transmissions in Overton to overhaul a transfer unit before, mainly because he's local. But he knows his stuff and has been in the business a long time.

Don't know where you are based but Gearboxman in Markyate have done mine a couple of times. From the symptoms I suspect you have broken a tooth and/or just worn them out. I had similar symptoms when I killed mine on a track day - whining noises under load which got painfully loud within 20-30 miles of normal driving, started skipping teeth and then nothing but graunching noises.

I saw similar symptoms a few decades ago when the splined prop shaft connection decided to start slipping for no apparent reason - after repacking it was fine and gave another 50k miles without any problems. I suspect you'd have noticed the loud graunching noises from the prop shaft though, if this was your problem.
