Is this normal wear for a car done18000 miles, and less than 3 years old?

It is from a fiesta st, car is just over 2years old and is standard.

I know the lad who's car this is, he doesn't abuse it, and when this happened we had been cruising along motorway for2 hours

Yes it did drive along ok, it was when we stopped for fuel he noticed the clutch smelling and vibration.
We had drove from Leicestershire to Cornwall, 95% of that journey is top gear cruising.

We pulled off at a junction and straight into a petrol station, no queuing.
