Due to a ballsup on my part, I've managed to damage a lobe on the cam for my tall deck mk IV BBC motor - hydraulic roller cam with morel lifters.

I've given it a polish with 2000 and the mark is still there. As it's a roller cam, I suspect it'll be ok if I run it, but I'm not really in the mood for chancing, so I'd rather have it cleaned up properly.

Can anyone recommend a company in the south that could do this? Alsop could do it I guess, are there any others?

I can "just" feel it. It's a depression rather than raised, and with a straight edge can just detect it. So its probably a couple of tenths at most.

When assembling it late one evening managed to put one roller pair in reversed. Dumb arse move trying to work late at night long after I should've called it a day. Cranked it over 1 cycle before I spotted it - mark left. Doh!

The roller is fine, harder material. Very slight visible mark on it, but completely undetectable with fingernail etc.

Thanks. So, back to the original question, is there someone who has the right kit to be able to advise and/or help?

I notice the other chap that posted deleted his post. Where'd he go?

I didn't catch his name, but he posted a pic of his tall deck motor with iron heads, roller lifters and part of an std-> tall deck intake spacer on the block.

Another post gone! lol

Mine's a 556 cu motor with Airflow Research 315cc CNC anodised heads on a 4.375 stroke & 4.5" bore. Hilborn mechanical intake converted to EFI with hidden injectors. Designed to produce more than 600hp at less than 6K rpm, but also have a gob of torque since it's a marine engine and therefore doesn't have a gearbox.

Being a pedant - as we're on an island and 2/3rd of the world is covered by water, there's more opportunity to go further, as long as I start in the right place. smile

No, not wakeboarding - monoski is more my thing anyway - BTW - look up some of the mental engines the waterski racers run - 1500+ hp in a 24' boat, for example.
However this motor is for a 27' replica of a 1967 race boat I've been building for the last few years. Not enough spare time these days, so it's taking me forever.

Not mine - but you get the idea:

Anyway, a couple of hours in the garage and the cam looks fine again. Thanks Dave.

Yeh, it's all chevrolet (for inboard motors), whether badged as mercruiser, volvo, yamaha etc.

The tech's moved on a bit now - mercury marine now make their own motor from scratch - own block, etc. Up to 1750 hp factory build - but if you have to ask how much, you can't afford it. They put one in an Ultima GTR too, for the launch.

My boat is the same as the orange one - except in white. It'll get some graphics when it's running.
Lots of pics of it, though not so many "overall ones"

Towing it back from sweden where the hull was molded. Think this pic was near Malmo:

Thanks. I hope so, it's been a lot of work - (re)building the trailer (major replacement of of the frame), lots of glass fibring, building the ECU (megasquirt 2 V3), wiring, building the engine - and so forth.
