Overfilled at oil change
Discussion
Hi all
I have a Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0.
Recently the workshop overfilled the oil by approximately 1 litre. I drove home, approximately 30 miles before noticing, and immediately drained off some oil to the correct level.
I have since noticed a small oil leak from the front crankshaft seal. Is this likely to be excess oil from overfilling? Will is fix itself when the oil in that area of the crankshaft has leaked away? Or will I need to replace the crankshaft seal?
Thanks
Harrai

Impossible to say with certainty.
Half litre overfill = not a problem
Ten litre overfill = definitely a problem
Though to define where the crossover point is.
Could be a total coincidence (or you hadn't noticed it previously)
Clean it up and monitor it now level is correct.
Don't waste any effort/thoughts/expense on thinking that the garage will fix the seal for free - not a chance IMHO!
Thanks for your response. I'll clean up and see how it goes.Half litre overfill = not a problem

I wasn't contemplating asking for a free fix - it's an old car, and things need repairing every so often
