Sump has a shallow dent of approx 5 Cms diameter in one corner and I doubt very much that any moving parts will make contact with it
The sump is coming off for cleaning and checks to be carried out on the engine, should I attempt to knock the dent out or will this possibly cause a bigger problem?

Pressed steel sump should knock out easily. Cast sump will probably split
Ok thanks, it is pressed steel, do I hit it or heat and hit it?

Thanks for all your opinions, I will wait and see if someone posts up about heating the sump or beating it when cold before making a decision

I would leave it. The dent is doing no harm so there is nothing to be gained by removing it, and there is always a small risk that the metal will decide to crack when you start beating on it.
Thanks, I will leave it alone, cracking it would be creating more work and I'm not the greatest of welders so would need someone to weld it for me
