Anyone got an opinion on this?

I have a mk2 Escort and am fitting a Duratec.

There are two choices, a world-cup crossmember to which i can attach engine mounts or i can weld mounts on to the chassis. I'm not sure what the benefit of mounting it to the crossmember is. I figure that with chassis mounting i can use an off-the shelf prop and bellhousing with my gearbox and weld the mounts on exactly where they need to be.

I know the duratec really needs the rack a bit lower hence the new x-member but i'm not sure why you'd want the engine to be mounted off it?

p.s. it's primarily a road car so I dont want too harsh a mount, whilst it will be a basic, stripped out car i really dont want constant engine vibes through the shell banghead

Interesting point.

I suppose the x-member mounting maybe makes it easier/quicker to take the engine out - hopefully i wont be doing that too often though

Turbosports forum has all the info you need.
Someone asked the same question on there and the World Cup crossmember was not considered necessary

You could fabricate engine mounts off the available crossmember
Thanks, i found that thread. Very useful.

Cheers. Having spoken to a few people and looked at quite a few cars I've decided to go chassis-mount. thumbup
