So I took an eBay punt on a cheapish camper conversion. It's a lovely 2004/54 Peugeot Boxer that looks like it's 10 years older than it really is because of how long they made this shape for biggrin

Anyway, on collection the seller advised me of a slight crunch into fourth but insisted it was gear linkage related. It was minor, and didn't happen at all if you didn't rush the shift. I negotiated some money off and continued with the purchase, knowing it might need some attention sooner or later.

This crunch got worse and worse during my drive home and developed from just 3rd to 4th to 5th to 4th as well. Weirdly, a few days later it had gone completely and shifts to fourth were smooth. Instead, it now crunches into fifth.

Double clutching does not solve the issue, sometimes shifting slowly or at lower RPM helps, but not always.

I'm wondering if perhaps it is linkage, it seems weird that the crunch should move from one gear to the next. Obviously it needs to goto a garage, but I want to go armed with some information, before it goes somewhere that'll potentially instantly want to remove the box or something.
