Hi folks,

Yesterday our 2019 L200 developed an odd noise. The car has about 20k miles on the clock and has had a very gentle life.

It is a lease car so no major panic but I curious as to what the issue is. I suspect it is turbo related but I'll defer to the experts on here.

The noise is really more of a high high pitched rattle - a little like a lose heat shield, but that's not it. At first I thought it was some sort of harmonic vibration from a lose bolt or screw, but I'm not convinced of this now.

Interestingly it only occurs are a VERY specific RPM, and only when building revs slowly rather than when hard under power or when the revs are falling. Above this RPM level the noise goes away.

It happens a fraction above 1500 rpm - say around 1520, and is gone before it reaches 1550. It really only seems to be a very exact rpm and not across even a small range.

It occurs in every gear but not in neutral - i.e only when there is a power demand. ( I have not tried it in reverse!).

Also happens in both the 2wd or 4wd setting.

Does the L200 turbo kick in at 1500 rpm by any chance? I'm wondering if it is a turbo bearing or something. The car drives as before, no vibration and no loss of power - but every time the revs hit 1520 under gentle throttle there it is.

Also, does this sound like a "don't drive the car" noise, or a more of a "it will be fine for a while" noise. Obviously I'll take the car to the dealer but can't do that for a few days.

Thoughts appreciated.

Well I had a god look under the car and in the engine bay and nothing seems anything other than brand new really.

Also this rattle only happens under drive, not in neutral, which I guess does not totally rule out the heatshield but suggested it me that it was more mechanical.

Tapped away a fair bit yesterday but nothing yet. I'll keep trying.

Checked the oil level too but all good - although surprisingly black for a car that was serviced not too long ago!

I have the same truck, with the exact same problem.

Like you, I've tried most of the obvious ideas like loose heatsheild etc.

Please keep me updated on what the dealers says! I'd pretty much decided it was an aux belt tensioner, but YMMV
Interesting - same noise at the same revs as well?
