I know what you mean. With 3 teenage girls and a wife packing for 2 weeks away, I was considering a trailer or a support van!

It was more complicated than that. Whatever you do, you need a car specific mounting kit - which isnt particularly common for a Commodore VE.

Initially I went with a Thule setup which clamped around the door frames but I wasnt happy that it felt secure enough to not move around once travelling. The kit for that took a week or so to come from Germany. I no longer need it so if interested.........

I then looked a bit further and ended up with a Rhino Rack kit from Aus - this mounts onto the fixed points on the roof and is far, far more solid and secure. Again, this had to be imported and I dont that will happen for next week.

I got my kit via the UK distributor for Rhino Rack who are Taubenreuther on 01832 275396 and spoke to a hugely helpful chap called Andrew who organised it for me. You need a RLCP18 mounting kit and a set of bars.

Always a silver lining.

The box is a standard Halfords jobbie. In fact it's a Thule box with their quick mount system that seems to fit fine. The Rhino aero bars are quite wide so just need to check that the mounts are wide enough to fit. Presumably they will be on the car when you go to fetch the box? So just check then.

The fact that he can do something for you for next week implies that he was a bit cunning and brought more than one kit over?
