As per this thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Who is interested?

Im happy to organise accommodation, but need numbers and commitment. Will probably look to book something by late october.

My plan will be to drive from London, take the channel tunnel and up from Calais.
You can save £50 or more on the ferry, but it takes hours longer.

We could meet at a set time in Calais and perhaps pick up wayward members floating across the channel at the various points along the way.

Its around 1200 miles each way. I figure you will need a week off at least. Options to add side tours are on the cards etc.
Anyway the main point is to sort out some accommodation in the area. Getting to and from is secondary at present.

So perhaps this can be stickied.

Im not sure what car to take yet, will decide closer to the time.

Probably 4 tanks each way. Give or take. £700 in petrol. Plus £100 for the channel.
Another £200 in spending money for food. Plus budget accommodation on the way to/from.
Say £500 accommodation. So my rough estimate is £1500.

Accommodation shouldn't be too bad. Ill do some R&D and get some indicative pricing.
Im sure people can share to cut costs etc.

As a precaution and to reserve something. I managed to find a decent 6 bed place in the town so have booked that.
It was only available on a week basis, but cest la vie. Looks like about €150 PP for the week.

Apparently someone will get in contact with me about it. Dont worry about cash yet. Ill confirm its booked first then we can worry about who wants in next and figure out if we need to find additional space.

Accommodation to and from should be easy we can just rock on up as and when on a day by day basis.

I was thinking something reasonably direct. I think its possible to get there and back in just over a week depending on how many days are spent in Vasteras.
That being said, there is ample opportunity for side trips. Its possible the Mrs will join me, in which case we may head to the hills for some hiking along the way to break up the travel. I think some trip advisor planning is in order. Maybe a few walled towns, and historic pubs as well etc
For a relaxing tour, 2 weeks is probably more appropriate.

What sort of journey is everyone keen on? We could start and finish each end of the tour as a group, but diverge in the middle taking in which ever sights appeal? And/or have set meeting points along the way. I would imaging everyone would be keen on stopping at some interesting points along the way, at the very least for some good photo op's.

Ok, well the endpoint and dates are known. So we will all meet there anyway.

Ill do some research and post up the route we will take. I still need to get confirmation from the Mrs. That will determine which route. If its just me I think a route of windy, empty roads would be preferred over motorway travel with slight diversions to stay in interesting towns rather than a motorway services.

I think its doable 3 up, 3 back and 2-3 at the show.

I have a house booked just down the road from it. Probably one of the closest places.
The Mrs isnt keen so it will just be me. All the spare rooms are available. I think GSD2000, Stick and MyM8V8 have tapped me up so far. Pah250 I think you might fit too.
Im not sure what the setup is, but Ill do some digging. If its got a yard others are welcome to bring tents assuming I dont get abuse by the landlord.

This is the likely route for me https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Dover,+Kent,+...

Though I think some deviation of the main road for some countryside action and some better accommodation and meals is in order.

This is the place I rented. Im not sure if its the whole lot or not, but its supposed to sleep 4 or 5.

Yeah, Ive paid a deposit so the place is supposed to be confirmed.

Ok, of course its not a hotel, so room selection might not be quite that easy.
Bring earplugs smile

Ill bring an airbed as well in case its easier to sleep in the lounge!

a: 3 beds
b: 1 bed
c: 2 beds

Sleeping bags required too by the looks. Check out pics etc here...

Ok so as everyone can see there is only 3 rooms.

So I think its best to issue them on a first come basis as per posts in this thread.

That person can either pay proportionately for all the beds or share with someone else etc.

I personally think we can get a few in the lounge room. But would like this keep this to say 2 or so to ensure the house doesnt overflow and we run out of places to sit/stand/eat etc. Also Im not sure where the landlord hangs out and whether Sweden laws mean they will complain if we put extra people in the place. I dont actually care, being a kiwi Ive been in a flat with 12 people before..

So thats;

GSD2000
Stick100
Pah250
MyM8V8
EmmaJ
adpative

Sadly Ill take the single room smile

So GSD and Stick to take ownership of the next 2 rooms.

Pah and MyM8V8 to handle the lounge.

EmmaJ and adaptive in the queue for either spare lodgings with GSD or Stick, or on standby..

Hopefully the Camaro will be ready as I have the OEM wheels and tires still, which can be shredded smile

Also Ill get onto the route when Im back in the UK. I think the idea is to take 3 or 4 days each side of the show for travel. Maybe leaving a day early at the back end. So total time off perhaps 10 days (1.5 weeks)

But we have the accommodation for the week, so its flexi.

There is a bit of a list above, so I think we are maxed out for now. Im sure if you take a tent there will be a spot somewhere.
I think you just roll on up to the gate. Ive not seen any mention of buying tickets ahead of time.

Ill be taking the Camaro or the vxr8 depending. Preferably the Camaro smile

Ok going to finalise the route and itinerary this coming week hopefully.
So it would be good confirm attendee's

MyM8V8 Stick suggested he may not be ready in time. But Ill let him comment/confirm to me via email.
This may free his room up.

Ill be taking the channel tunnel over, so will look at dates.
Gareth, let me know when you are planning on hitting the continent. We can meet you in Denmark/Holland or wherever you drop anchor.

Ok looks like there should be a couple of spaces for some others then.

Ive chopped the route up into 3 x 6 hour days. Im sure we can "improve" on the Google times.

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Dover,+Kent,+...

Gareth, where do you make landfall? Meeting near Bremen on morning of Day 2 would tie in well depending on where you hit landfall.

I think there is room to head off Sunday AM and arrive Wed PM for day 1 on thursday, so perhaps chop it up into 4 x 4hr days instead of 3 x 6hrs on the way up and perhaps do it in 3 days on the way back?

We can head off Sunday AM after the final day, or even get started Sat afternoon depending.
Possibly from midday Sat, Sun, Monday and back to work tuesday.

Let me know what you guys think!?

Once we figure out the pace we can look at stops along the way and where to spend the night.

Ok, Im going to book the chunnel and accommodation up there this week.
The last link I posted showed roughly the stop for each day.

Coming back we may be a bit more flexi and perhaps drive a bit further and see if we can get back in 2 days...

GSD has been in touch, just waiting to hear back on logistics etc. Will probably take an early train from Dover around 8am Monday. Final rental deposit is also due this week.

So Ill be letting those who wish to attend know where to send cash smile

Anyone wanting to come last minute should be no problem, but you might need to organise your own accommodation & logistics for the trip up. I think we will have space in the house at the show. We will of course be happy to collect stragglers along the way.

Ok booked the following; (based on the draft route a couple of posts up)

Channel tunnel early AM monday 1st.

Vasteras accommodation is €800 for the week plus some £60 cleaning fee or some such.
So we will split this amongst the attendees who can just pay me in Euro smile

Rieste, Germany 1st July
Malmo, Sweden 2nd July
Vasteras 3rd July->6 July
Malmo, Sweden 6th July,

Leaving the sunday unbooked at present, I think we will discuss and figure out where we want to stay based on travel progression etc over the week. Sunday PM shouldnt be too busy for accomodation (hopefully!)

Ok works out to a room each at present. Very civilised.
If anyone else is keen speak up smile

Gareth, happy to avoid motorways here too. Stop at villages for lunch instead of motorway services etc.

There is a bridge from DK to SE so no ferries required.

GSD are you going to take the tunnel?
