both rear quarters where wheels are are dented , axle appears broken , hubs bent , and both rear wheels very split , it’s going to be expensive adding to that 20 inch rims plus both rear tyres mullered

The axle looks broken from how the back end is sitting , so i believe that’s makes a write off likely ? , only really know when it’s on ramps , dash cam caught it but it appears i can’t post it on here

I’m hoping they will agree to drop off at walkinshaw for them to sort it out

Hi Ian , cheers for that , i hope they will go with the walkinshaw plan , i did try and send you a clip but can only whatsapp or email , damage is under side other than the wheels and tyres being mullered

As other people always seem better finding things on line than i am , can some one please post diagrams or something on those lines detailing the rear vxr8 suspension parts where it is what’s it’s called and part numbers if there is such a site or link , so i know what they are talking about on the car and i know if they do repair what they are doing , insurance company is heading on the write off route , but i would like to see it repaired if possible , as it’s a shame to kill it off , cheers in advance

Cheers for the diagram , i am thinking the reason for the wheels not sitting correctly in the arch are the lower and upper arms being bent ? hopefully diff and subframe ok , suspension looked ok but it’s not that difficult to source, body work is minor dents that could be pulled , the wheels can be solved via ebay as hsv sv pack 20 inch wheels are around 4k£ it seems , it’s already been taken to be assessed i’ve been on there case so they know where i stand with getting it repaired , ive asked when they assign an engineer to get him to call me due to club knowledge on where to get cheaper parts , there was not much option it had to go to their assessors , they say i will know next week , so fingers crossed

Cheers for the above posts and links , Rock auto show some of those bits fairly cheaply so they would be a good go to place , it would need to be walkinshaw for the wheels , i an insured with A plan , if they say it’s a write off i will be straight to the pound to pick it up but i’m hoping they see sense , James at Elite was very helpful and gave me a replacement price so if they get funny that will be put forward , the annoying thing the accident was not my fault but you always end up out of pocket in one way or another

I’ve been told if repair costs are more than 65 per cent of value then that’s write off area , the car is going to be taken to Warren at Topcats to be stripped down or the like to assess the damage , my main concerns are diff subframe drive shafts , wheels are around 600£ each or so , im sure there are other expensive bits but i won’t know more until it’s taken to pieces , the other party have not even made contact with my insurance company , so it’s a case of wait and see , i maybe lucky but it appears i am often not , that the parts broken are not too much cost wise , i just want it back on the road as it’s a rare car and a shame to write it off

An update , well it’s not a write off , the suspension bits are all being replaced for new parts , drive shafts were damaged plus a number of suspension arms 4 on each side , the rest of the car seems ok but they will know more when it’s fully stripped down , total cost is around 7200 , the paint work damage is very minor main cost is labour and new suspension parts , the lovely 86 year old who hit me is still arguing it’s my fault ???!! , but the insurance company have viewed the dash cam footage and can’t confirm yet but are saying it’s her fault and that’s what they are pressing for , sv 20 inch wheels are hardest parts to source so i may go down the lines of 19 inch rims , the insurance company said with out dash cam they normally go 50/50 as it’s difficult to prove otherwise , so in simple if you like your car and policy then get a decent dash cam nextbase 112 are good and around 40£ from halfords and also get a good sd card which is about 12£ , the only thing i found with dash cams is every other day reflash / delete the footage or it can loose some , things are not fully solved yet but i will update with any results

Hi it was mentioned in response back to my insurance company , not that i want to deprive some one of there freedom but i think 86 maybe pushing it a bit , but if you look at how the accident happened my thought is she should not drive any more , i heard some one else on here had their v8 written off by an old bloke , but the camera is very important evidence wise

I’m pretty sure in Aus and New zealand they have an assessment it’s not a full test but it’s just to make sure you are safe

Hi ARAF , walkinshaw managed to find a set of 20 inch rear wheels in silver that need spraying in black , the thought is the subframe and diff are ok so fingers crossed there , the only thing holding it up is a few bits on back order from pedders and rock auto , so fingers crossed for some time in August , the other party have still not admitted fault even though it’s on dash cam ?!?

Well the good news , finally got the car back , body work damage was very very minor , it was mainly suspension parts plus a set of ££££ 20 inch rear wheels plus tyres , not always easy getting parts , car looks great as if nothing ever happened , a big Thank You to Warren and his team at Topcats , a very good job done and i was kept up to date plus good attention to the small detail ... spot on , total bill is around 8200£ other side who hit me are hard work even with good dash cam evidence so waiting for that side to be sorted
