I went to see a 2005 facelift (z?) Monaro a while back and quite liked it despite me being a confirmed vauxhall disliker. I'm a big BMW fan but need to scratch the RWD V8 manual itch and can't quite stretch to an E92 M3.
Anyway, the urge has come back so I may go and have another look this weekend.
Would you be so kind as to suggest known common issue points to look out for so I don't get suckered into buying a money pit by the exhaust note rolleyes
My head keeps telling me I must be mad because my mapped 330d with a quaife lsd is probably just as fast, better equipped and twice as good on fuel and has no issues whereas my heart keeps saying yeah, but it don't sound like a V8 does it!
Talk me into or out of it if you want wink

Thanks for the replies. It's all as I thought really. They do seem a bit old school muscle car but with modern creature comforts like air con and cruise control etc. I too don't like modern cars. My 330 is 2006 so from the same sort of era. I previous to it had a 1997 M3 evo. I'm not really a boy racer (47yo) though, as I seem to have come across in the OP, I just like to have some performance under my right foot as and when the mood takes me. The performance of the mapped 6 pot BMW diesels is very impressive, around about 300bhp and over 600nm of torque, throttle response is very instant!
But, having said all that about speed etc it's not that thats attracting me to the Monaro. It's the looks and sound of the big LS1. I just feel I need to do it before the petrol runs out and they all become museum pieces.
I think I'll go and have a drive of one or two and see how they make me feel. I have been reading posts on here, looking for any common faults. Clunky diffs, rusty brake and fuel lines, rusty petrol tank straps and general body rust seem to be the main things to look out for.
Thanks again for the replies.
