Having secured a T350 and awaiting arrival, does anyone have any useful tips on ownership/general tinkering.

A bit open ended - but any ideas or experience welcomed

Drive it. Enjoy it.

Start reading through this forum.

Plenty of small mods to make things easier / better / fun.

Personally, MGF / TF rear view mirror is a first one for me. Proper useful interior lighting. Can combine with a timer relay to provide delayed turn off like a modern car. Unless you have a Sag spoiler, in which case remove the rear view mirror.

Second is relocating the heater module into the cool air flow under the glovebox and putting a plug that can handle to current. Whilst the glovebox is out, then seal up the grp to stop dust.

Third is swapping the bulkhead earth point in the passenger footwell for a proper secured stud with bolted fixings. and then replacing the 80 and 100amp strip fuses with midi ones (or using marine circuit breakers).

Reg Varley's Sagaris manual is [expensive for one] useful and has a lot of info, tips and mods.

Few FBook groups too. T car, T350, Tamora Tuscan T350 and sag, etc....
Wasn’t he into buses?

Many thanks for the help, I’ll have a look at these items - is Varleys book online?

Drive it and get used to it, above all ENJOY IT! Worry about tinkering if/when it needs it.

HTH
That’ll be the start off! I’ve nearly finished the project cars so am fast forwarding 33 years of TVR here! It’ll be strange not hunting on eBay for escort or zephyr parts....

Thanks for the replies, can’t wait to get driving it in about a week then suss out what to do first. The glovebox lid is warped I presume that’s just a steam it flat job?

I've managed to get the Varley manual - looks pretty comprehensive with some good tips. I should have the car in the next week - waiting for a dry day, I have to say I cant wait !!

I'll suss it out for a few weeks and then get it in for a 12,000 service (hasn't been done for 4 years) - its a 2003 with 19,000 miles.

Thanks. I really felt for the new owner when he showed me a picture. Just hoping it is salvageable as it was otherwise mint and wanted for nothing in my ownership.
This is a pic in nicer times;

Hi Zippee

Was that a standard petrol filler for the T or did you change it?

Delivery taken and driven for about 4 hours at the weekend....
Very very pleased with it, wow. Better than the test drive and very tractable so it’s quite happy pootling on back roads as blasting up a clear dual carriageway. I say blasting - more launching !

Initial observations
a) steering very positive but feels a little light above 100mph. Ill get the geometry checked at some stage
b) fuel blow back - yes. There’s a restriction ring/baffle in the filler neck reducing the diameter by about 10mm has anyone tried removing this?
c) it’s a bit lumpy on startup idle so I suspect a bit of throttle balancing needed at the next service
d) water temp up to 92-3 in traffic jam after a decent run on a hot day - no fans kicked in (I think they’re set higher?) but after arriving home and stopping for 10 mins the temp was predictably 102 on the ignition switch but no fans - should they come on with the ignition switch?
e) on a sweeping road near home there’s a ‘wavey’ section I only notice towing a trailer at speed, but at 50mph the T350 suspension seemed to ground on the drivers side with a clonk - didn’t have it anywhere else over many miles of road. Does this happen occasionally? No bump steer or anything but I wouldn’t expect it with power steering

Overall: expectations way exceeded !

...Ps the glovebox hinge has warped - the lid looks straight though - is there a mod for this? I’m tempted to cut out a wedge shaped section of hinge and glass it back together but the ideal would be a replacement hinge!

Yes the fans should run with the ignition on. I’d make sure they are coming on, especially seeing temperatures like that. The fans should keep the temp at around 95.

The connectors can become corroded and the running of the fans erratic. Give them a wiggle once at a temp they should run at. Keep body parts clear of the fan.

You can pull them apart rub the terminals on wet and dry and coat with dielectric grease.
Many thanks for that - I haven’t sussed out the connections yet or even where the temp sensor is. I’ll have a riot around later this week.

When you say warped, do you mean the lid does not sit flush when closed. If so then this is normal. A lot of them get wonky due to slight movement in the panels.

I understood that if this happens then it could go wonky again if you manage to straighten it.
The lid is ‘straight’ - it appears to be the hinge that’s distorted. I can detach the hinge but need to climb into the glovebox to see how it needs packing out and to reglue it.

Just being nosy V6Pushfit, but did you buy your car from James Agger?

Saw a photo on their FB page of it being driven away last weekend and it looked a lovely example.
Actually no, I bought it privately. I’ll put some photos on at some stage when I get it out somewhere photogenic !

Someone of PH had a batch of new and improved hinges made in 2017. Do a search. Maybe he still has some?
Aha!

I have now contacted threefishorange who made the last batch - he says he’ll do another run of stainless glovebox hinges there’s enough interest.

So, if anyone is interested then add your name to the list:

Don't know who owns it but it's parked where a Vixen used to be but I know that has been replaced with a very nice Chimera and moved down to London. There used to be another T350 in Henham about the same colour so could be that.

Plenty of TVRs around the area sounds like you've added anotherthumbup
That Vixen got me into TVR’s, it had a sad lingering end but may be revived one day.

Yes there are a few about, despite being rural there are currently around 11 pre M’s within 10 miles but I don’t know about the more modern ones...

OP - on the banging suspension front if you don't have spare cash for nitrons just yet I have a spare set of original bilsteins I took off my old 350 in 2009 at 13000 miles. Mine was a late 2004 model.
They're in good condition but with a bit of paint flaking and in need of a clean up.

Banging suspension could be anything, get it up on a ramp and have as good look around. Personally I'd get it to a TVR specialist garage like
TopCats and I'm sure they'd look at it and let you know whats up. IMHO
Is going to straight6 in a week or so for a 12,000 are they as good as Topcats/Powers? Or shouldn’t I ask on here ?
