Insurance - Any recommendations?
Discussion
Chaps, I absolutely hate to ask such a dull question, but have just bought a V8V and pick it up in 2 weeks. (only very slightly excited), and am looking for a quick fix on a decent insurance company. Any recommendations? Sorry again, but I'll post some piccies when it arrives, I promise. thanks in advance, Mark

It's a dull question that gets asked once a week .......use the search facility there must be 20 threads on this subject........suggest you could use a search engine such as " go compare " like the rest of us !
Look forward to seeing the pics
Did try to search but says its down at the moment, sorry. Looks like I'm doomed to fill out the same details ad infinitum on the usual web searches. Sorry to bother you.....in fact, I'd be better off deleting the thread!Look forward to seeing the pics

Locktons, 5k limit, DB9 Volante, 38yrs young, £800 and I'm not using my no claims bonus on it.
You Sir, are a diamond. £790 with zero no claims, £640 with 5 years. That's the beauty of asking the dull question on here, as the majority of the mainstream quotes were closer to £1000. Thanks again chaps, and sorry, again for being dull.....how do I get circumflex on my iPad, I'm intrigued!?Bincenzo said:

Slarti, do you have to be an AMOC member to get this through Locktons?Rather disappointingly, Locktons won't insure me because I'm a Member of Her Majesty's Armed Forces. Thanks for your support, makes me feel very wanted and I'm sure there's a good reason for disadvantaging people who choose to do what I do for a living, after all, we only risk our own lives for the security of the nation. If anyone from Locktons reads this I'd be delighted to hear from them.

Totally agree with Murph and George on this one.....with the greatest respect to the OP, he is a pilot in the Armed forces and you can hardly expect his risk profile to be the same as say a Charted Accountant.
Maybe so, but how does a pilot suddenly become a higher risk of crashing a car? AMDBSNick said:
Morning Chaps,
I asked our resident motor insurance man and I detail his reply.
"Terrorist target ( individual or barracks where car parked )
Armed forces can attract a certain type of person
Known to party hard/drink
Vehicle could be parked airside
Some Insurers as always are underwriting on reputation not always the facts. We do deal with some insurers that like them !"
Mods this is not an advert just joining in
Nick, thanks for the insight. Nothing at all contentious in the reply there, as the Forces are a large organisation who employ a certain type of people to do a certain type of job, but the fact remains, we're not all Rambo nutters who drive like lunatics and get legless before driving naked around an airfield. I do get the point though!I asked our resident motor insurance man and I detail his reply.

Mark.. Insurance aside due respect to your talents. A pilot and an Aston owner, now that's
Let me know when your offering test flights
Grant, very, very kind words, thank you. But, it's just a job and there are sooo many people capable of doing it, they just haven't been as lucky as I was to end up actually taking it on as a profession.Let me know when your offering test flights
Now then, back to inventing that company....

Interesting that Bincenzo has not responded since 09.35 which means the luck git is out bumbling around in his fighter jet. bd
Nick, very perceptive, I was, but I'm afraid I'm a military helicopter pilot, so no jets (well, in theory the engine are gas turbines, but you know what I mean) but lots of teaching student pilots at the moment. Now that's something I seriously would not insure! Beautiful day for it though. Sorry if I've let every one down by flying rotary wing....although we do get to see a lot more 'interesting' situations than the fast jets, certainly during current operations. Jockman said:
Methinks people are getting their wires crossed a bit here - there is a law to stop companies discriminating against certain groups based on gender, religion, ethnicity etc.
There is no such law to protect pilots - why should there be ?? When I'm quoted for insurance I get one premium for being a Director, another if I were a Managing Director.
I have no idea why this is difficult to understand
Jockman, I'm not asking to be a special case, I just want to be insured and don't understand why a company refuses full stop to insure not just pilots but every single member of the Armed Forces. Seems to me like they're missing out on a lot of trade, as there are over 150,000 of us!There is no such law to protect pilots - why should there be ?? Personally I'd have much more respect for an insurer noting they won't cover me at all rather than give bullst mega-quotes out to dissuade me.
OP - have you asked around within your colleagues ref car insurance generally? It wouldn't surprise me if there were places that specialise in insuring people in your line of work.
Oh, and rotary are way, way cooler than fast jets. Have you been to Vegas recently?
Not been for a while Murph, did my last dust in Morocco and Kenya. I'll check with the petrol heads at work, bound to some one with an 'in'.OP - have you asked around within your colleagues ref car insurance generally? The simple fact is service personnel and their perception of acceptable risk is different from a civilian. Hence the higher statistical likelihood of being involved in an accident.
And that fact is enough to earn my respect and gratitude.
Very kind, a genuine thank you. Support for any profession feels good, and we are no exception. I'm beginning to get a much better picture of risk profiles et al, so my initial rant was without the facts I guess. Still, only a week to go until I pick the car up, so frankly that's all I can think about! And that fact is enough to earn my respect and gratitude.

I've had my V8V for about 5 weeks now, I'm sure you will love it ! But, a week !!! I saw mine on a Monday, picked it up on the Wednesday - I can't be doing with waiting !!Chaps, breaking news! I sent an email to Locktons who were kind enough to call me about the note on the Ts&Cs. They had not noted it (underwritten by Chubb) and are more than happy to insure me, and are the cheapest by far at £640. Result all round, but thanks for the input anyway.
On a seperate note, I have a friend who works at Gaydon, he's popping round in the new Vanquish on Saturday....oh dear
