Evening all. Long time member, very occasional poster.

I'm finally in the position to treat myself to a Vantage, although at the "affordable" end of the spectrum, so <£40k unless there's an absolutely amazing deal somewhere. But I want a Titanium Silver one, and they seem to be very thin on the ground ! They all seem to be black or grey. Was Titanium unpopular for some reason ?

There was one locally recently that I nearly bought but someone beat me to it. No big deal though as it reeked of cigarettes and I was a bit so-so about it, so I chalked that one up to fate. Looking at the ads right now I can't see any Titanium Silver cars at all. I don't like the blue tint of Lightning Silver, so that's not an option.

Do I have to give up and buy a black one ?? There's loads of 'em.

Thanks for all the replies. My reason for wanting a Titanium Silver is a bit silly really, it's because we have three other cars that are silver and I want it to match as closely as possible. Don't judge me; we all have our little foibles don't we ?? I'll also want/need a black interior for the same reason. I do like the various shades of grey but they're not the bright silver that I want !

pggroves - I don't fancy a red interior, but agreed on the red rear lights.

JohnG1 - Lightning Silver - I have viewed one, a 4.7 that was a bit out of budget but in its favour had the lightweight seats. I could have stretched the budget if the car had really wowed me but it didn't. One owner. All the stamps in the service book were AM but it was two months overdue for the next one. No other paperwork - I would like like to see receipts so I know what work has (and hasn't!!) been done. A lot of little scratches on the body, brakes dirty, it basically felt like it had been just "a car" to someone and not loved & chersished. Not even prepped by the (non-AM) dealer before sticking it on the forecourt.

Dewi 1 - yes, I'm looking at 4.3s, hoping that a good 4.3 will overall be a better ownership experience than a "cheap" 4.7 that 's been neglected and has all the big bills coming at once. I'm definitely planning on it being a keeper, so I can wait for the right car, and will travel too if necessary.

That's a name I've not seen for a while. I take it you still have something from Munich in the stable given the colour requirement?
LOL ! I don't recognise your user name, but you seem to like Alpinas... Craig ?

Yes, I have one of Munich's finest E46 diesel Compacts for tramping up & down the motorway every day. However my main allegiance switched to Stuttgart a few years ago with a 996:

(not a GT3)

I've done a few autosolos this year and fancy building up to sprints next year, that'll mean some changes to the 996 that make it less practical as a road car. Hence need a road car. Hence Aston biggrin

How has yours been?
Touch wood - extremely good.

In 5½ years (but only about 15k miles) it's only properly let me down once, with a dodgy fuel pump relay. I had to get towed home but a new relay was <£10. One failed coil pack; I replaced the whole lot of course. An early visit to the rolling road highlighted a dodgy MAF. And another visit some years later eventually led to the diagnosis of a stuck solenoid controlling a flap in the intake plenum. I actually suspect it had been faulty the whole time but was masked by the MAF. It drove noticeably better with the new MAF so I didn't bother revisiting the RR straight away. New solenoid was cheap, and very easy to fit.

It has always made a creaking from the front suspension when hot. I've replaced the arms, the drop links & the top mounts, and greased the ARB bushes but it still does it ! I think new dampers are the only things left to try.

The a/c has never worked. Almost certainly the condenser rads but I've never been too bothered.

The usual weep from the RMS has been slowly growing over the last couple of years and has finally become a slow drip so I think it'll be time to do that soon, and a new clutch while we're there. That will be the first big bill I've had.

Overall - it's been a really good car. It's a keeper.

I spotted that one a few months ago when I was looking for mine, to be honest the black wheels put me off...
I saw it too, but felt the same way about the wheels ! Easy enough to change, of course, but still off-putting for some reason.

Also, it's a 2½ hour drive from here. I'd do it for the perfect car, but that one didn't sufficiently grab me.

That's a fair point, I've never driven a Sportshift, so maybe I should at least try one. I have a distrust of overly complicated mechanisms though and automating a perfectly good manual box falls into that category for me. Are they generally reliable ?

Spoke to Garry at Grange yesterday, that car is sold. If I liked the Sportshift it would have been perfect. Rats.

There's a Solent Pearl Sportshift near home, I might try to look at that one this weekend.

Well, it was a month, which is not long I guess, but it's the only one that's turned up in the spec I wanted in that time, nationwide. There's not that many around and this was only an hour from home. Another might turn up next week, or it might be two months, and could easily be in Scotland. So I jumped at this one. And it's my birthday a week after I collect it.

Fingers crossed it all works out....
