Hi All,

Not sure if there is still anyone on here who attended the track day at Rockingham that was organised by Bob back in 2014?

Old thread here; www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1390346

Everyone that attended had a great time and was worth every penny.

I have been chatting with one of my dear friends who is an area rep for the AMOC who thinks this would be a great event to repeat and will be advertising the day through the AMOC website/forum etc...

Looking back at Rockingham there was a maximum of 40 cars allowed, I have also looked at Donnington but the cost for this circuit is way more to hire than Rockingham (from memory) I would imagine if we limit places for us to 20 slots and 20 places from the AMOC, obviously can even those up depending on numbers...

So I am more than happy to organise this event, I had 2 years racing and have built up some good contacts along the way, one BTCC driver has said he would be happy to come along and would ask a couple more drivers if they are up for the event.

They could seat hop through out the day for tuition and assistance, obviously they will want a fee for the day that could be spread across the whole cost.

As far as dates go I am looking at end of April next year on or around the 29th.

I am still waiting for final costs from Rockingham and will post this up as I get them all.

We may as well start a list now of names of anyone interested. Ill go 1st.

piston head name, followed by real name and what model car you have.

Possibly a dumb question, but, here we go. If this is a sort of "private" function, are helmets required ? I don't have enough headroom in my car to wear a helmet so if they're not required, I could be interested.
Yes helmets are required..... Last time there were helmets available to hire on the day, this is something I would have to look into, why do you think no room in your car?

Definitely interested but have one question. What is the insurance situation for events like this? Does everyone HAVE to have their own track day cover or is there some kind of group cover provided by the track/included in the fee for the day or is it entirely up to individual participants whether or not they have any insurance at all? I suspect it is the latter but just want to know what the deal is.

Hi Pete,

Check with your insurance provider, I am with Loctons, they will include track day cover as long as its an Aston only event, This was the case last time but even I will be double checking this.

They have 2 options usually, 98db or unsilenced... Unsilenced is usually a lot more expensive..

I know my current insurer doesn't provide any cover but that wasn't my question. My question is - what are the rules of the day/track? Can you attend and participate in this event without any track day insurance in place? I ask this for two reasons:

1. Do I have to change insurer or get stand alone insurance for this event?

2. Will there be people on track without any 3rd party liability insurance?

Not being awkward or anything and totally want to be part of this event but just want to know exactly what the situation is and where I stand?
Pete, There is no 3rd party insurance, for example if your car is insured for damage on a treack day, if I come into contact with you you would have to claim from your own insurance etc... Same as any normal track day. But in all fairness I cant see this happening. The last one went with no misshapps....

TBH if we are hiring the circuit for the day they will overlook this... I know my car on the last one was well over, same as Yeti and it wasn't a problem.... I am still waiting for the price from Rockingham, they all generally have 2 prices. 98DB and unsilenced..

just depends on what we all want to pay... In all fairness, anything around the £500 ish for an exclusive day like this is great.

I've no idea where the GT8 is (but certainly more than 99db!).

If the limit is high enough there may be a group of the GT8 owners interested
That would be amazing........ I will double check about the noise levels. But like I said, my last Aston was noisy as hell and was ok... biggrin

UPDATE......

So prices back from Donnongton at £21,500 + VAT so that's a no no plus the date I was looking at ties in with BTCC round.

Rockingham which is available on Friday 20th April is only £8,500 + VAT (£10,200 incl VAT) with 2 instructors for the day, we can have more if we want, so this is much better.

Also we can have up to 60 cars comfortably there on the day. But if we reach the 40 mark this day will only cost each of us £255-00, so the more cars we can get the cheaper it gets.

Noise limits will be a very non strict 105db, id find it hard to imagine any of our cars are above that!!

So I have provisionally booked this for 20/04/18

Because my head is already touching the headlining ! No chance of fitting a helmet in too.
I will ask the question if they are compulsory or not but I think I think I know the answer to this already..

Regarding helmets.

Copy of email from Will at Rockingham;

No problem Paul,

Helmets are compulsory on circuit and we do have a rack of 30 for track day use if required. We can either hire them individually on the day for £20 or the full rack can be hired for £250 and drivers / passengers can use throughout the day. We do asks that drivers leave a licence or similar as deposit when borrowing a helmet.

Many thanks,

Will

I'd be interested but, from experience, would be turned away if the noise limit was 105db (and I would not be interested in travelling hundreds of miles to find out how accurate the term 'non strict' is). The GT8 is considerably higher than 112db which is about as high as "noise limited" track days go.

If you go down the "unsilenced" route you mentioned earlier, I'd be very interested.

Also I'd rather pay more but have less traffic? 60 cars is a huge number, even if you were to session it 50:50. 40 would make for a far better event (split into 2 groups alternating half hourly)?

Last week I attended a private track day at Silverstone. Expensive, but exceptionally well organised with no more than 10 cars on track at any one time + no noise limit + an instructor on hand all day + mechanics + lunch etc etc.
Let me email them and find out what they say regarding the noise level with regards to your car and any other GT8's that want to attend, after all it would be nice to have them there.

As far as track side assistance goes I am looking into this as well.

Number of cars, all I said was that the track can accommodate up to 60, but I want to cap the number at no more than a maximum of 45.

Sounds fun and a really affordable exclusive at under £300 and Locktons give me track day insurance included smile. Its not a track car but would be fun to do a dozen laps and have a bit of a social - especially with some pro instruction top tips to boot.

What circuit layout will it be as they have a dull oval through to a highly technical one. And thanks for sorting Paul!
Hi Ken, It will be the international circuit, I agree the oval would be a tad boring.... Its a great infield section at Rockngham, great fun.

Don't forget to put your name on the list,...

Petrolburners,

This is the email I received from Will at Rockingham regarding the noise level.

Hi Paul,

Hope you had a good weekend and apologies for the delayed response.

112db is certainly loud, considerably louder than this would be the kind of noise levels associated with fully prepped race cars. If he indeed was louder than 112db we would struggle to get him on, the only thing we could suggest is that should he fail we let him out to be monitored on drive by, if he does ping the monitors and bring us over our noise limits we would need to stop the whole session for 15 mins.

Hope this helps!

Why can't they give us an unsilenced day. Looking on the website the open track days seem to cost the same whether they are 98dB or unsilenced.
Well Will who I have been dealing with, his last email was this, so will see what they come back with.

"Totally understand, would be a shame to not get the car there too.

Let me have a chat with our circuit manager, he’s out of office today so I’ll get back to you tomorrow if that’s ok?
Thanks,
