I think it might look different in the flesh. Aston Martin Manchester will have one on show this weekend, I'm going to pop in and have a look at it.

Shmee150 first drive

I think he's fair in his review, the front is not going to be to everyone's taste and the base price concerned me when I first heard it, 125k, with options pushing one to 150k and that's before they offer carbon ceramics and the sports exhaust. While it's fair to say the 911 GT3's price is a fairy tale because you cannot get one without buying a dozen Porsche's beforehand the AMG GTR is something you can order and will be a compelling competitor for buyers.

I can't stand those wheels, they look dirty all the time, yuk. Oh and those exhaust exits look awful.

I hate gloss and matte black wheels, and the standard exhausts on the Vantage look too small for the size of the diffuser that surrounds them and the hole they sit in, the sports exhaust with quad pipes look better but I think a good aftermarket with fatter pipers would look the nuts!

Salomodrin makes a case for a V12 version of the new Aston, I still have my doubts.

Aston owners are definitely not the target audience; he really liked it and would choose it over an AMG GTS, he owns an AMG GTR and would keep it over the Vantage, however he noted suspiciously V12 vent parts on the underside of the bonnet and is very keen to see that happen. Everyone agreed it sounded epic and pulled harder and lower in the rev-range than any Aston he'd driven before. Separately he's seen the new DBS and is super excited by it.

Beetle engine ?? What are you talking about, nothing remotely VW about a contemporary 911.

All the serious reviews, not the collections of banal, click bait, youtube'ers, are pretty much agreed. The Vantage suffers from excessive weight that inevitably compromises it's dynamics and Porsche are just really annoyingly brilliant at this car making lark.

I really rate Matt Becker but AM (and Jaguar actually, F Type has exactly the same issues) need to work out pretty damn quickly how to make a competitve modern car weigh the same , or at least nearly the same as the Germans do.Does british aluminium weigh more than german aluminium or something?
Porsche make incredible cars, my previous car was 991.1 Carrera S and it was amazing and I miss it frown

The 991.2 and the upcoming 992's are powered by a 3.0 Turbo and go like stink, but they're soulless, there's no drama, Porsche keep all the fun for the GT's and then won't sell you one, I drove a 991.2 GTS and I don't care how quicker it's 0-62 time is, my Carrera S was more fun.

If you're buying a car to enjoy on the road and not the track, to roar out of a corner on a good B road and feel a sense of exhilaration then the Vantage wins hands down.

That's a fairly ugly interior combination on the new Vantage, but that's down to choice, the one I sat in had a nice monotone tan leather vibe. The Vantage does have more buttons, but after sitting in one I felt the complaints about them were overstated.
