I took my car for its MOT, fully expecting it to sail though.

And it did, sort of.

The tester passed the car but noted that "both rear anti-roll bar linkages are corroded but not seriously weakened".

The car is 5 years old but has covered only 11K.

Now, I trust the tester and the replacement is a simple, relatively inexpensive job.

However, I was surprised that the links had degraded already.

Comments?

Sorry - I should have said, he said that there was slight play in the rear wheels when he had it up on the lift.

Was it an advisory or just a comment? I wouldn’t rush into changing them without either checking yourself or a second opinion. Having said that they aren’t too difficult to change. 11k miles is low for them to need replacing though, hence a second opinion...
It was an advisory; exact wording "Anti-roll bar linkage corroded but not seriously weakened both rear (5.3.3 (b) (i))".

He also mentioned that there was some play evident in the rear wheels.

I started to get a strange metallicy noise or bad squeak/ rattle from the rear, noticeable if I steer left or right quickly. Could this be same issue?
Car is 8 years old and 16200 miles.
I've not noticed any unexpected noise from the rear at all. Was it a permanent or intermittent. How was it cured?

It’s intermittent but more noticeable when steering. It’s only just become more audible and frequent so will probably wait till service time to get it looked at. Sounds a bit like one of the under side panels is loose/rattling.
I'd be interested to know what the cause was when you find out.

I think I'll get a 2nd opinion on mine prior to changing the links.
