Tailgate bump stop plastic tape

This must be the most OCD thing ever, but when I bought the car, those two little round clear plastic tapes that sit on the body of the car where the trunk bump stop touches it, were ruined and yellowed.

I went on in replacing them with various type of adhesive, but results were quite poor, like coming off after a couple weeks, the tailgate bumper destroying them and so on.

So, are there really needed or could I do without? I am not really sure they are of much help in protecting the paint anyway.

Scuderia calls them (at least, I think this is the part) Anti-Squeak Tape DG33-19H207-AA.

If it's just to avoid squeak, I might try without and see. My fear is to ruin the paint really.

On the other hand, if those are really the part, I might bite and get it from them.

Mine have actually migrated on the adhesive and were no longer on the little "lands" so, as my car is Onyx Black, I got some wide black pin-striping tape from my local car accessory shop. I cut some squares and just cleaned off the old adhesive and added the pieces of tape. Virtually invisible and a solution I can live with.

I appreciate for any other colour you'd probably want a clear tape - if you know someone who fits or has fitted PPF (sometimes called helitape, as it's used on the blades of helicopters) you could ask if they have a few small offcuts. You could also mask off the little "lands" and use a hard, clear lacquer - something like an engine lacquer - and top it up if required

Thank you Felonious for the tip but maybe it's not the way to go. Nevermind that the minimum amount they sell is a 100 foot long roll at 43 € plus shipping.
