Hi All,
Im currently looking to buy a DB9, more than likely a 2013/2014. I was originally attracted to the Virage but i much prefer the DBS looking boot lid on the DB9. I have been thinking about this for a while and as i was lucky enough to land a new job my finances now approve👌. The wife says im crazy as im only home 12 weeks a year but those 12 weeks need a fun car. I recently had a lovely Maserati GT, when i sold it i seriously regretted it . Offer i got was too good though to be fair. Anyway i now have a very boring Audi A7 and although it’s really my wife’s now i just need something for me. Don’t want to get another Maserati as I generally dont buy the same car twice and where do you go from Maserati? Not a Bentley fan and can’t afford ferrari etc and probably don’t want one anyway. Was thinking M8 as i have had a few M cars and loved them all but something about the M8 stops me, probably the price and depreciation to ve fair. So its the Aston!! I have seen two on Autotrader that catch my eye. One silver one in Bathgate, this is close to me as im just outside Glasgow, only 28k miles and 60K, the other is 55k and Grey in Harrogate, this has 68k miles though although not overly bothered about mileage as long as history is good. I also just found out i have a independent 5 minutes away in Martins Aston services. Anyway, hopefully I’ll be back soon with some photos of my new toy.
Thanks
Derek

Hi,
Im sure she does, anyway im thinking only one person on the insurance!! She has the Audi and there’s no requirement for her to drive anything else. She has a habit of hitting walls.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I always do my homework when i car hunt and my last two searches took me 6 months to find the right car for me. I spend hours looking through forums to see where the most common issues are. Regarding dealer reputation, I don’t normally bother either way, if the cars right then I don’t bother where it came from. I will have an inspection carried out though. When i bought my Maserati the dealer had some poor reviews but the car was fantastic, it had 19k miles on it over its first 7 years, when i got it i used it daily and put 14k on it in 18 months with zero issues. I most certainly will visit Peter though, only a few minutes from my house. Again, thanks for replying and i will keep you updated. 1st thing i need to do is sit in one as in a fairly tall chap. I just managed to fit in my old 911 996 so hopefully more room in the DB9.
Cheers

Gents,
Just to update, firstly the Mrs is good for something as indeed the quotes for insurance are cheaper. What I can’t understand is it’s cheaper than my A7! Not sure how that works. Anyway, not had much joy so far as i have not had much time. I went to see a 2013 DB9 that was for sale in Edinburgh but was sold and taken away just before I arrived, it wasn’t the spec i wanted but was purely to see how i fit as i am 6’6. McGurks has one now that I really like and obviously his reputation is great. I would have no issue’s putting a deposit down without seeing first but its the fitting issue that’s stopping me. Unfortunately I can’t go see it until the 11th June as im faffing about in France currently. Are there any freakishly tall DB9.2 drivers kicking about on here?
Thanks

I think the reason for the insurance being lower is that Audis get stolen, Astons not so much.

I had an A7 when they first came out and it was a very capable car. If you haven’t driven a 9.2 I would recommend you do before you buy. It’s a ‘hands on’ experience compared to a modern german machine.

I bought my 9.2 5 years ago iirc and it has become part of the family. Only this morning I was talking about selling it to get something else and the wife has convinced me to keep it forever and get something else alongside. Ok then, arm twisted.

There were 556 9.2 DB9s produced by Aston Martin, which includes the GT version and the specials. So not a huge number around as they were overshadowed by the Vanquish2 (despite being almost the same under the skin). Personally I think they are the perfect Aston GT car, beautiful smooth lines, perfect proportions, classic style. A great choice.

You may also want to consider a couple of upgrades when you make your purchase. The wireless carplay kit offered by Aston Installations transforms the usability of the centre screen. The 9.2 can also be software upgraded to increase power from 510 to 540bhp (as per the GT). This is available from Aston dealers for a couple of kidneys, or one or two indys can do it for near nothing.

Happy to chew the fat on these cars if you have any questions, feel free to PM me if you prefer.

Hi,
Thanks again, i agree the A7 is certainly capable and its a comfortable thing but has zero feeling for me. Regarding the upgrades i have been in touch with BR dfor the remap and i also have a martins aston services 5 minutes from my house and they cover the Carplay. Just need to get in one and go from there. Hopefully the one mentioned is still available as i will be passing there heading home. I will keep you updated and thanks afsin, really appreciate it

I should think you'll be fine. I'm 6'2 and went to see a DB9 before the V12V and it was really roomy inside. I'm based up in Oxfordshire and McGurks are literally 10 minutes from my house. I'd be happy to nip up and check anything out for you / FaceTime you to talk you through anything you want to see. They're really good up there and I'm utterly fastidious for detail.

Cheers

Chris.
Hi Chris,
Amazingly kind offer, really appreciate that. I will think it over and let you know, i may be heading home early now so if so i will be popping in to see it.
Thanks
Derek

There's much to be said for the Jag X150. Half the price of an Aston and about half as much to run. But they're completely different, so fitting in one doesn't mean you'll fit in the other.

There mus be a DB9 within striking distance you can see and sit in, even if you don't want to buy it.
Hi,
I do like the XKR and nearly bought one before my Maserati, my mate has one and he loves it also. Closest DB9 to home is 100 miles, very few for sale in Scotland. I will get to one though.
Thanks

Morning all,
Just an update, i missed out on the mcgurk DB9 as it was sold before i could get there. Yesterday i went to AM in edinburgh as they had a 2010 DB9, unfortunately it was in prep so never got to sit in it, however should get the chance today. I did sit in a 2015 Vantage and when comfy had 1” head clearance which is totally fine. I actually really like it so if I can’t fit in the DB9 i may go back for this one. They also had a speedster at just under £1 million, some machine but no good for the Scottish weather!! I will keep updating and thanks again for all your input.
Cheers

Hi,
So, I couldn’t get to sit in one in Scotland and decided to fly to london hoping for the best. I’m happy to say that after some configuration i found i had 1” head clearance and my legs and arms we’re comfortable. The car was in stunning condition after a few test drives i bought her. 400 miles home with no comfort issues. Car drove beautifully through sunshine and heavy rain. 24 MPG which i thought was fine. Sound system is excellent but Sat Nav and entertainment system not great so defo going for Carplay. Cant find a mark on the car, leather looks utterly brand new. Ride is fairly firm but not crashy in anyway. Not a fan of the standard Pirelli tyres but that’s for later. Engine bay is as clean as it gets, again looks new. Needs serviced but the garage i bought it from gave supplied all the required items and will pay Peter Martins to carry it out. Only been 800 miles since last one (400 i done) but its over a year now. Anyway, thanks for all your input.

Hi,
Have any of you ever stepped up the tyre size from 245/35/20 to 245/40/20 and 295/30/20 to 295/35/20? I will be changing the Pzero tyres in the next couple of months and would like to do this to soften the ride a little bit more. I done this on my Maserati when removing the Pzero tyres although i went slightly wider at the same time and it made a huge difference. Just looking for some more rubber between the wheel and the ground.
Thanks
