Did Mazda ever sort out the 6's rust issue?

Just had swmbo's 53 p!ate rust out at the sills so we're looking for a replacement. The problem is that it suited her very well, was utterly reliable and they're cheap as chips* and fairly common near us.

Hence the question... I'm looking at the last of that generation 57 plate.

(*probably because they rust. )

You'd hope they fixed it for the next generation, but as they were sorting them under warranty did they improve the later ones of that gen?
