Buying an Impreza Wagon

The wife's due in Feb so I'm selling most of the ridiculous collection....and buying something sensible.
I'm tighter than a ducks ricker, and will fall on my sword before getting a Renault Megane Scenic.
Is an Impreza wagon practical enough for all the pushchairs and crap, dog etc? Will child seats fit in it?
It is some six years since I owned an Impreza (saloon) and I seem to remember that they are relatively small. I think it will be prudent for me to get a WRX or an Sti to prevent me from being tempted to start playing with it to go faster....
