Evening

Some of you may have seen my post on general gassing, but if not...

I'm hoping to sell my Cerb soon, so I can free up some cash, but I don't really want to be just down to the Lexus and I'll be picking up a second car for a more modest price. My original thought was a caterfield or something like that, as I'd like something that is rapid enough for me to not miss the Cerb too much. Caterfields are a little selfish though, as my gf won't go in one, not something that will stop me buying one if I see a perfect car, but i'd ideally like something we both could enjoy.

Next thoughts were either an RX7 or MX5. I've owned a Eunos 1.6 a few years back and enjoyed it, but it will be way too slow for me these days. Am I likely to be able to get a turbo'ed MX5 for a maximum of £4k, and if so is that wise
On the other hand i've always loved RX7's, what sort of car could I expect for my money? Either straight unmodified or engine modified. Not really into wild bodykits and the like...

Any thoughts on either? Anybody know of any good cars that they could point me in the direction of?

Yeah id say so. If you cant afford one at 8k you cant afford to run a 4k one. you might get lucky, but you do see so many people who buy them and realise afterwards they cant run them and sell them when it pops or after a couple of months.

Well, i'm running a Cerbera at the moment, there is no way it costs more than that to run, I can guarantee you that

The RX is cheaper to run all in than my Cerbera was. I think the point though is that if £4,000 is the limit then avoid an RX just because you could find yourself in for a £3,000 rebuild fairly swiftly.

If, however you can spend £4,000 and if a rebuild is needed you can free up cash then take the plunge. They are a great drive but at £4,000 and no rebuild funds they'd be a risk.

Cheers

From research over the past few days, it seems that like all other sports cars at the moment, prices are in freefall. What may have been true 6 months ago is well out of date. There are cars advertised at under £5k with a recent rebuild now, there are even a couple of single turbo conversions at under £6k.

I don't think getting a good car with recent rebuild for around £4k will be too much of a problem, i'm in no rush...

Possibly not but, for 4k, what would you realistically expect? Most of the mint rx's still fetch decent money. A decent single for 5k? Expect problems unless the owner really needs to get rid for personal reasons. I suspect bargains are often because of known problems...

I totally agree, but I suspect that with the current prices as they are, the bargain cars that may have problems are likely to be the £3k cars
A decent single for £5k? How about the single currently up for sale by re:worx on behalf of one of their customers for £5,995?

Link to advert? Its a good price but also reflects teh condition if its the one I might be thinking of.

I cant see one with a decent rebuild going to 4k. The rebuild will cost almost that alone so soon people will be buying em for engines if thats the price.

The re:worx one is in the mazdarotaryclub forums, haven't got a link to hand, but it should be easy to find.

This one seems not too bad a bet at £4750 with a recent rebuild by WGT

Yeah, I saw that one, my suspicion drive went to full throttle as I read the listing
