Hi folks

I think my starter motor has packed in this morning. Its a 2006 BMW 530i sport with n52 engine. Took a few attempts to get started this morning, just clicking no cranking at first then fired up. Drove to work now just clicks. I've tried jumping with leads but still the same and seems like plenty of power to lights dash etc which leads me to believe its the starter motor.

What I am wanting to know is if it is the starter, is it possible to bump start (or push start) the car. If so how do you go about doing it on a car that starts on the button and requires the clutch to be depressed first?.

The button and clutch should ony be for the starter motor, so I would try it the normal way, switch the ignition on (second stage) push it in gear with the clutch down and then off the clutch to spin the engine.

Think of pressing the button just like turning that last part of the key.

I do however still think it's the battery.

Thanks for the advice, worked a treat. Means I can get it to the garage now. Battery voltage has been checked and is above 12V. I only changed it last year so is fairly new.

Try jumping it first. My money is on a failed battery and/or battery earthing strap. The clicking is the starter solenoid and a lack of power usually stops it clicking across as it should,
