Thank you! May I ask how much was the car? Was it on finance? I am planning to get it on finance. I am hoping to deposit 5k and hopefully less than £200 per month? Is that possible? I can pay a little more deposit though. I don't know why but I and scared buying because I don't really know anyone who is good with finance and cars in general lol

If you saw a 2008 car it's definitely the first generation. Although with BMWs changes are more evolutionary , rather than revolutionary so you can , even sober and with 20/20 , easily be confused.

If you go to BMWs website you can see all the different 1 series iterations listed and you can build one for yourself . I think most are called sport now , apart from the specials with M prefix. Older ones were differentiated with SE or M Sport , the latter most notably having sports seats and suspension.

The numbers 116 and 118 relate to engine size. They may have the same engine capacity , if so it's a difference in power that separates them ; logically the 118 is the more powerful.

I've had petrol and diesel Sport trim 1 series models as loan cars and really didn't like how they drove. For a more fun car, still within the BMW family, I'd suggest a Mini Cooper.

I don't know anything about buying on finance. But If you register with the site bmw baby.net you'll be able to track down a well thought of guy called Tony (TRL). Definitely , if you are thinking of a 2017 (new) model he can give you a finance quote.

Thank you. So anything before 2015 is the old facelift, and anything from 2015-current is the new facelift? So if I get a 2015 reg plate is the new facelift BMW? Also there are no new facelift during 2015-2017? Also the link you provided. The right-hand side BMW has 2 bums (the exhaust - whatever its called lmao) and the left BMW has 1. Why is that? Are the 2 bums more expensive? Don't ask why I call them bums just poped up straight out my head.

Sorry if I'm asking alot of stupid questions. I just want to make sure I get everything right. When I do buy the car I will most likely be with my dad and I can tell you know he is stupid like me haha

edit - I forgot to ask are we talking about '15' or the '65' 2015 plate? Which one is the new facelift one? I want to make sure I get everything right before I buy lol.

I'd say "rear," or if prefixing two of the rear features i.e. lights and (exhaust) pipes, I'd say "tail."
On the white one, in the link, look at the rear and see how the tail lights extend into the hatch (boot), they are also redder with only a little white. That's the easiest way to tell the newest (facelift) version.

With a 15 plate, you will still see some older versions as the cars will have been have been built maybe several months before they were registered.

I had a quick look at the used cars on sale on BMW's website and the first 15 plate to be of the new style was registered in May.

The two tail pipes together denote a 120 model, so yes it's more powerful. There's also a 125 model. And if you really wanted to go fast a M140i (previously a M135i) which has it's two tail pipes one on each side.

BMW does make some changes outside the main facelift, but I don't have the knowledge of the 1 series to determine what if anything would be different between a 2015 and 2017 model.

I am planning to deposit 5k and I was wondering if that's a good deal or not? I thought my car is worth 24k why does it say 20k? I also notice this too why some of the 118 worth 17k and it's 2016 plates?

Since I think January 2016 all the BMW's had Nav (Navigation) which is worth having. The I Drive changed in 2016 too which instead of listing options, there are horizontal windows that resemble apps to select and choose settings,

There are many options, and some are required in order to realise others, so be cautious not to get the first car you see and watch the salesman doesn't push you into a car that suits him to sell just because he has it in stock. Wait for the car that has the specification that works for you.

M Sport has different bumpers front and rear, and many will have M Sport suspension, some people however, deselect this option to avoid having a firm ride, and one thing to consider is if looking at an X Drive, they don't and can't have M Sport suspension. This option is 10mm lower than standard. You can also find SE models which someone might have ordered M Sport suspension for, mad isn't it? An SE usually has flat style seats, where an M Sport always has bolstered seats and are so much nicer.

An M Sport standard cloth interior is actually very nice, and arguably nicer than leather, but the other coverings don't look so special in fabric.

I had an 120d M Sport with the sport plus option, this is also a great option which gives you much better brakes with blue brake calipers, sun protection glass, and Harmon Kardon stereo, it also had sport plus auto which has an eight speed automatic with paddle change on the steering wheel too, such a nice car to drive and was quicker than a manual version.

Anyway, loads to choose from, metallic paint was an extra, and not cheap, so consider plain colours as often worth less.

Navigation? Isnt that satnav or whatever people call it these days? i thought all the new bmws have that already installed? isnt that the little lcd computer in the middle of the car? is the navigation compulsory or is it only installed in 2016 cars?
