Hey guys,

I'm at the middle of purchasing a 640d (not new) but I'm getting insurance quotes for around £1.7-2k which is madness.

I'm in my 20s and my current car Porsche 911, I pay about £1.1k.

So transferring all my no claims bonus the insurance rises from £1.1k to around double?

Is this expected, if anything I was expecting the 6 series to be lower than my Porsche. Porsche is 3.6 the BMW is 3.0 and less horsepower.

So yeah I was very surprised after having this conversation with my insurance company.

Well I managed to find a policy for about £1.1k so hopefully that goes well, still bemused why the other company wanted £2k.

With regards to the 911 vs 640d debate, lol.

My 911 is 2007 so getting a bit old, and I eventually want to upgrade to the newer 991 2012 onwards model. My other car is 3 series BMW, and I think most Porsche owners drive two cars.

So 640d as a daily driver alongside hopefully a newer Porsche 911 in the future is the idea, if finances and circumstances allow.

Driving the 640d, I have to say it is a beast, power like I can't explain. Super fast, once you are in the right rev range, powers through. As someone above said, it is literally wafting. Once moving, it feels say from 30mph to 90mph as fast as my 911, but without any noise. And it is so smooth, but yeah in terms of handling, it doesn't turn or handle anywhere close to a 911.

It is also nice to be able to go 15-20 mph over humps comfortably, my 911 I would have to slow down to about 4 mph. And when taking my mates, full grown lads, in the back on my 911 - it was pretty uncomfortable to watch.

But yeah it's no Porsche.
