Hi,

I’m looking at a 66 plate F30 320D M Sport (November 2016 registered) for sale at an independent dealer.

The car has 56k miles currently. On the iDrive system the first service carried out was in March 2018 (42k miles), second service (not done by bmw main dealer and not on iDrive system) done at 53k miles.

Is it possible the obc could have recommended the first service at this mileage? Or could there have been a service done before this but not logged on the system?

Also, does this any of this void the manufacturers warrant which should run til November 2019?

Thanks

Is it something an owner could ignore once it asks for a service? Or is there a constant reminder? (I’ve never had a bmw with iDrive)

Find it hard to believe someone would buy a new car and not service it on time, that’s why I was wondering if it was possible a service was carried out but not updated on the car?

I probably will look at alternatives, it’s just this one is price below others.

I think it's more likely service/s haven't been logged. Even BMW dealers can be sloppy, they've forgotten to update my service history once.
I have the same engine in a 2017, not a 3 series, and on day 1, 19,000 was the miles until oil service due. In my case it dropped to nearer 17k. But it could well go up a bit for a softer (say M/way) driving style.
I'm not sure of the exact terms of the manufacturer's warranty, i.e. whether claims are disallowed if the car hasn't been serviced correctly. But I think it's a strong possibility as such terms exist in the other warranty products, for example if you were to extend beyond the first 3 years.
If you wish to pursue, you could ask dealer to take car into the local BMW garage and see if reading the key clarifies it's history.
I don't know if that will evidence a service/s performed by any garage or just a BMW dealer or independent with the correct software to properly update iDrive.

Alternatively, find one with pukka service records.
Cheers, I might just do that as there is a BMW dealer just 5 miles away from this dealer.

In my experience if it was done late BMW log it as so. It comes up orange on the service schedule in the car.

If it’s not orange, perhaps one was just missed and not logged in the computer.

So if it is orange like in the picture it means it’s a late service and if it’s green it’s more than likely that a first service was carried out?

Checked with BMW and it seems like there has been no service before 42k mile 😬 I’ll give this car a miss anyway

Cheers lads! Another quick question! I’ve moved from Ireland and I’ve never bought a car in the UK before, so are prices on autotrader negotiable? I hear a lot about “fixed pricing” and the car being the cheapest on autotrader so no room for negotiation!

Any price anywhere is negotiable in terms of buying a car. Walk away from anyone who wont even entertain it.
So if it’s with an independent dealer/main dealer and the cash price is £14,950 how much can I negotiate? Are we talking £100/200 or is it possible an offer of £14,000 could buy it? (I know each circumstance is different but I don’t want to be completely ignorant going into this smile )
