The wife's car had a drive train warning. Went in for a egr recall so I asked the dealer to check drive train warning. Turns out it's a converter lockup error on transmission only has 33k on it. BMW UK have offered 70 percent parts cost and car is from 2014. But we have to cover the remaining 30 percent of transmission and 6 hours labour.

Anyone had experience with BMW goodwill. Could I get any more contribution from them ? If so what methods do people normally use ?

That's what has come up

When the EGR starts to fail it throws a drivetrain error....

It will also leave codes for transmission lock up too sometimes.

What actual issues have you had with the transmission?

I would get the EGR replaced, reset all codes and drive it. I bet you never have another issue with it, if you do, then take it back in.

Given it’s out of warranty by some 3 years I’d say it’s not a bad offer. However if 30 percent and 6 hours is £2500 then it might be worth seeing what a gearbox specialist says.
I asked a few transmission specialist they said around 2 -2.5k. Some said they would want a few hundred just to look at it to check the selonoid. One said to me 500 to take out gearbox for diagnosis.

The wife plans on keeping the car for a long time anyway as it's really high spec. So I'm thinking maybe get it replaced and then write a letter to BMW UK and see if they can refund the 30 percent difference.

The car has gone in for a recall on EGR anyway and I just asked them to check the error out.

What is happening when you drive?

That is the important bit.
When you drive it's fine, but when you come to the lights and slow down coming to a stop it feels like it wants to run away And take a bit of time to disengage and slip. I thought maybe initially I might need to do a fluid chNge as car coming up to 6 years old.

Just take them up on the offer.

And once done, buy the extended BMW Warranty online.
You can buy warranty extension even though the car is 6 years old ?

This is so much the case.

The amount of people who pay £1500 to have a new DPF when it needs an £80 thermostat.
The issue these days is as soon as the computer throws a code they run their hands together and start swapping out things like transmissions!

Hence why I am asking to the OP what issues has he actually got?

I bet there is absolutely nothing wrong with his gearbox at 33k miles.

I have done complete flushes on these 'boxes at 150,000 miles after customers have been told they needed a new gearbox and they have then been like new and ran perfectly for another 100,000 miles.

These 'boxes are pretty tough and I would be very surprised to see a torque convertor failure on them, especially at such low milage.
I dont really have any issues per say as my wife drives the car. I only recently purchased it privately but it has been serviced by the dealers since new. I normally take my F11 530D to snows BMW in Portsmouth so i have gotten to know the staff there. My F11 has the Zf gearbox but i had the oil changed on transmission frequently on it. which it is still silky smooth even at 184k

The Egr/Cooler is fine it has been check for the recent recall. My wife says she has gotten the drive train warning around 6 times. When i checked the car using Ista it had showed the code come up every 50 miles or so. I have noticed when i come to the lights it would want to not disengage and want to run away. which i have not felt on any other bmw Auto even the Courtsey 2 series Grandtourer that i have. So i thought i would change the fluid but then the drive train errors kept on coming up. I suppose i made the mistake of jumping the gun and asking the dealer to carry a check on the code etc. I suppose i should have got the warranty cleared the codes and waited till they come up and then put in a claim.

If it is doing that then fair enough.

If you have the diagnostic software did you try and reset all the gearbox adaptations?

If it is in there and you'e happy to pay the £750 then may as well.
No didn't reset adaptations. I initially thought I would do that after changing gearbox oil. But the drive train warnings kept on coming. The car was already booked in and had to go for service and recall, I knew BMW might offer goodwill so I asked the dealer to take a look. (Although I knew what the error code was). I will still of course trying to get more money out of BMW UK once the job is done.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Here is abit of an update, I had the new gearbox fitted and car returned. It no longer shudders when coming to a stop and trying to run away and gear changes are way more silky smooth. Dealership did as much as they could for me, only charged me 4 hours labour, didn't charge me for fluid etc its the BMW UK that's the large chunk of the cost. I have written a complaint to BMW UK customer services asking them to at least supply all the parts at 100 discount.

Worth asking.

6 year old vehicle, presumably 3 years out of warranty, I’m still surprised you got 70% out of them smile

Are you the original owner ?
No im not the original owner I'm the 3rd. But it was fully maintained by dealer network
