I run a 2015 528i MSport. I recently had a recall notice from BMW about a faulty driver's airbag, so booked the car into my local AD. Just had a call from them to say that there are 'supply chain issues', and that they don't know when the recall work can be carried out. Is the problem dangerous, I asked, and the best they could do was to direct me to the Helpline, which inevitably I can't get through to. Anyone have any ideas - or an update? Thanks in advance.

Yes, I gathered that there's only a problem when the airbag deploys, but still. I'm going to try and get through to the Helpline again.

Finally got through to Helpline, not much help to be honest. Seems that BMW Germany are non-committal about when the supply issue may be solved, although it could be "any day" and there's no doubt that everyone concerned is "working flat out" to solve the problem. As to the likely effects of the airbag deploying in a faulty manner, the best I could get in answer was that recalls are often triggered after only a very small number of cases have been reported. Looking on the positive side, I don't remember reading about any such event, not in the UK anyway. So, that's where we are. Rather unsatisfactory.
