Well, I've finally finished work on my E28 528i and uploaded to my website!
I didn't want to infringe any spamming rules so here is just a link to a slideshow of images.
Anyone actually interested in a full write-up on the car can view the text via the 'For Sale' on the website. Otherwise hope you enjoy the pics.

Egbert, it's taken me just under 4 months of working basically every evening and every free weekend. The car was actually very good even when I got it having been advertised and sold as an 'immaculate' car. But you know I don't like that term!
So here we are 4 months later!

Mustard, I'm sure you're making good progress just keep going...but I hope your family, neighbours etc are not having to suffer the way mine have over the past 4 months....what with all the swearing, frustration, cut and freezing hands etc etc

Yes, it will be a very different driving experience to your M3 EVO! Just be a bit careful...at least until you get some decent modern tyres. Those metrics and the light back-end can be a treacherous combination especially in this wet weather we've been having. Don't get suddeny caught out! Like...

It's very, very hard to do it...always sad to see a car you've put all this kind of effort into drive off down the road and turn the bend at the end (and you can still hear it going off into the distance ) That's the bit few people can really appreciate...(i.e the time and effort) and it's a thing that's difficult to quantify and put a price on.
It's especially hard when effectively I never get to drive them unless it's to and from getting servicing or MOT's done etc...BUT I can't keep'em all! And if someone else really gets pleasure out of owning and driving a nice car that I've done...that's a 'good thing' too?

Tappets are not self-adjusting on the M30 engine. A couple of possibilties:
1.Could just be the normal sound of the injectors that you're mistaking for tappet noise?
2.Many people also say (but would be good to get a proper expert opinion from someone like 'Blackspider' on this forum?) that these engines run/idle better with the valve clearances set a little bit 'loose'?
3. Valve clearances genuinely a bit out of adjustment...not too difficult to do if you're methodical
4. Genuinely worn valve-followers or camshaft! Can happen if either high mileage, poorly maintained and also if the 'spray bar' nuts have been failing to lubricate the top-end sufficiently.
But I'm not a professional BMW mechanic so I'd get (and also like to hear) their opinion.

It never fails to surprise me how much people still love the Alpina B3 I sold last March...I still get enquiries for that car. You wouldn't believe how much trouble I had selling that car at the time with people mucking me about here in the U.K! It was only after I threatened (in fact I think I actually 'did') withdraw it from sale that everyone suddenly 'came to my door' begging me to sell it to them!
Anyway, it's true I never sell my cars 'cheap'...that's not why I do this. I try to get cars up to the 'best I can' by my standards, describe them as accurately as I can and eventually the 'right' buyer recognises that and buys the car! ...And if they then keep in contact with me and tell me how they're enjoying, having problems etc...(Yes! They do happen on cars! And the real enthusiasts understand and accept that as part of owning and enjoying a 'classic')that makes it worthwhile for me. The chap who bought my last 840Ci Sport still keeps in contact and I always enjoy hearing from him! I still get 'upset' when I see a car drive off...still hope the new owner will 'look after and enjoy it' as I would have if I was keeping it. The bottom-line is I don't do this for money (without wishing to sound 'unseemly'...I can earn a shed-load more money doing my 'proper job'!)...but this is what I enjoy!
I'm similarly grateful when I read stuff like the above from enthusiasts such as you on this forum (means far more to me than some pointless plastic 'concours trophy'!).
In relation to the E28 528iSE that I currently have for sale...a motoring author who is writing a book on the complete history of the 5-Series has contacted me as he wants to feature the car in his book. Like this forum it seems to be getting praise on forums around the world now...and I'm genuinely really grateful to you guys and others:

A guy in Cyprus (also RHD) is currently discussing the purchase of the car who has a budget of £8000-9000 but may be running into import duty difficulties. Yes, it's true I don't sell my cars 'cheap'...but in the end...well, as I say on my website: "The bitterness of etc etc..."
Anyway, sincere thanks again for your kind comments...they are much appreciated!

Yes, as Mustard said the colour is 'Pine Green' Code 0261 according to the brochure I have.
Yes, the parcel shelf is easy to replace. Find out from the dealer how much a new one is from BMW Mobile Tradition. As they don't seem to have a coherent pricing policy sometimes things turn out to be not as expensive as one might anticipate and one gets a pleasant surprise!

No Mustard...it's no different. It's just a sub-section of BMW if you like that they have set-up in Germany to hold and deal with all the stuff related to the much older cars. I think they may also be in charge of things like running the BMW Museum etc.
For example the trim piece I needed next to the driver's seat had to come to my local dealer via them in Germany. Made no diference to the delivery time and the part wasn't expensive either. Was surprised that even they didn't have the 'horse-hair' type mats left in Pacific Blue but forunately I managed to get a very good secondhand set.

If you can't source a green carpet maybe you could get a different colour one secondhand in a contrasting colour? Maybe black or grey with overmats? Just an idea?
