He recently bought a motorbike. One of these Chinese copies of a 125 Honda. 65Plate complete with L plates so on a half licence or whatever they call it. Not a Full. Quite soon after he acquired another bike. A 64 plate KTM RC. This piqued my interest. I know what he does for a living (another neighbour who dislikes him told me) Curious as to how it could afford a bike and then change it quite soon after getting it.

So I ran them both through the askmid website. The Chinese one was insured, but the KTM 125 wasn't. And remained uninsured for a couple weeks. Whilst he used it daily. I reported it via Crime stoppers website and within a week or so it became insured and the original bike disappeared.

I noticed one day he had a rear square bike number plate on the floor for a 55 plate. Which he hid under the cover for the KTM. But I made a note of it just in case.

With me so far?

Last week sometime the KTM disappeared and a Yellow Yamaha appeared. This looks like more of a 600 bike. Reminds me of a Honda CB600F. Sit up and beg type bike. There's no L plates on it. And low and behold it has this 55 plate on it.

So I ran it through askmid. And it comes back as a Black Honda VT Shadow. A cruiser type (think Harley esque) which even allowing for a colour mistake by the DVLA it's not even close to being the same type of bike. That bike appears to be insured. And MOT/Taxed as well.

Thinking I maybe mistook a C for a G I tried the alternative. And that came back as a 3.0 BMW Diesel car. (Which hasn't been insured since 2008 so prob written off) Another alternative came back as an E Class. Another variation came back as a Tata!

Then the other day he came back from a ride with apparently no helmet on! It was around 9pm or so. He also had 4 other bike friends with him. All 125 types. 1 of which (if I got the reg right) is also not insured.

After midnight one day the Chinese bike came back. And I watched as he got out the Yellow Yamaha from its storage cover and took it out for a ride, but his old demeanour when getting it out was looking around. On edge the whole time. He came back and he's started to lock the storage cover to a gutter whereas previously it was just closed.

My gut is somethings very up with him (and his mates) . So I've reported it to the relevant Police via their website. Tried 101 but finding a phonebox not covered in st was hard and then it was a minimum 5 min wait so gave up and did it online.

I fear it will be a waste of time though frown

Is this some sort of windup? WTF - hasn't the OP got anything better to do?????
Well I think the bike is stolen and he's using false plates on it.
I think he and his 4 mates are connected with it all.

There is the alternative that he's bought the bike from someone and has inadvertently bought a stolen bike. In which case he's potentially got leads on a gang of thieves

But I guess you think it's not a good use of my time. Up to you I guess. Maybe I should ignore it all and not give a st. Hey it's probably nothing right?

If it is the Police will exonerate all concerned.

Oh and as for waste of time 36 months and over 1000 posts. Yeah I'm the one with too much time laugh

Does insurance show up on the ask mid database immediately? Is it not conceivable that he just bought a new bike and insured it but it took a week or two to show up on the database?

It sounds like you're not sure on the exact plate details?
Dunno on Askmid.

Its difficult on the plate since the bike is covered, and I'm no going to sneak out and lift up the bike cover. (It's a kind of tent thing) Since they will be able to see me. And I'd rather not make it obvious laugh

But I've seen it several times so I'm 95% sure I'm right.

Regarding my posting maths

If I get up from this computer. Take 2 steps to my right. I can look out the window and see the bike tent. It's not like I staked the place out for a week under a camo net with night vision goggles. laugh

OP, the only thing you have done wrong is dial 101/ use the website, you may if your lucky get a PC pitch up sometime in the next 28 days if you don't keep getting bumped in all probability you will get a PCSO and good luck with that.

Of course if you happened to suspect somebody of carrying a firearm or dealing in various chemicals you might find the response to be slightly swifter by a proactive team from your local police force.
I've got a reference number from the website. I guess if I went into the local station with it, it could be cross referenced? Or maybe if I phoned 101 and waited?

It was a busybody like the OP who was responsible for my very immaculate Ducati Supersport being removed from my garage by the police and left to rot in an open compound for 2 months after they cut a massive hole in my garage door.

The garage is rented, so I'm not sure if the landlord managed to get the door replaced by the police or his own insurance - but they absolutely refused to take any responsibility for the damage caused to my bike.
Clearly this never happened exactly how you typed

If you are the legal owner of a bike and can prove it easily, why would it take 2 months to get back?

Maybe next time you're around the local police station just pop in and see what they have to say about it. That's all you can do really.
Due to the unique way the Met is funded my actual local station is not open everyday. laugh The big one (not a million miles away from AshleyMan if his dashcams are anything to go by) well I went there (for something else unrelated) a while back and it took 30 mins to even get seen.1 person who tbh wasn't a Police, just some admin woman who knew very little!

- especially if it's cannabis. I hate tobacco smoke, it reeks to high heaven (maybe because a parent quit smoking). Hash smoke, on the other hand, doesn't bother me. Except I feel a bit odd after being exposed to it. smokin (No, I don't do drugs, but I went cash machine in the village and the car next to it had weed smoke pouring out of the open windows).
Its funny, I've never smoked. But I can tolerate Fag smoke more than Cannabis.

And I have to say public weed use seems increasingly common. Based purely on the amount you smell out and about. And I'm not sure I approve of that. If they just sat inside with the windows closed. Rock on, but driving seems especially stupid

It will probably be miles away by then, claimed on insurance & logged by some PCSO with a crime number.
Post up your address please that way everyone cans see where you live and if you have anything nice. smile

I presume if someone steals your number plate but not your bike that'll be fine though. After all a poster on this thread kinda hinted it was a st load of bother to sort out.

Mini update.

The bike has gone. I just saw someone I didn't recognise (not my neighbour) riding it away the other day (still on the same 55 plate) I got a much better look at it this time. I was right about the plate but not the engine capacity. It was a Yamaha TDM 900. Identical to this one.

Of course the plate is registered to a Honda Shadow VT600 like this

My neighbour still has his Chinese bike, I've seen him riding it about since the other Yam went. Whilst I've not been around 24.7 this last week, I haven't seen anything to suggest the Police have taken any interest at all. And now, its too late

With hindsight was the KTM also stolen? Who knows. I do wonder if there'll be other bikes in the future that turn up. But this was probably the easiest slam dunk Id have thought.

I'm really disappointed by the whole situation tbh. frown
