I've been reading threads on here for a number of months but after passing my mod 2 this morning I'm now on the lookout for a 1st bike. I've narrowed it down to two options

MT07 - This is the bike that I have liked ever since I got the idea of learning to ride in my head. I've also been learning to ride on one and have really liked it. I've found a pre reg one (with 3 miles on it) locally in my favourite colour scheme that they are willing to sell at a decent price compared to new.

Street Triple - I've never ridden one but everyone seems to rave about them. I've found one at a local dealer - 12 plate, one owner, 3200 miles few nice extra bits on it. This is a few hundred cheaper than the mt07 that I've found.

I'm torn between the two but I'm swaying towards the MT07 for the following reasons - manufacturers warranty for 22 months, I know what it's like to ride, it's got ABS, it's what I thought I would buy even before I did the CBT, has a fuel gauge and gear indicator, main dealer is local.

I can't ignore the street triple though as people rave about them, the one I've found is mint, it's cheaper than the mt07 and they are made about 5 miles from where I live.

I can't get a test ride as I've only had my license for 5 minutes which is fair enough and with the MT07 I don't need one as I know where I am with it. Whilst learning I did have a try with the school's honda cb650f and I didn't get on with it due to how close the gear change and rear brake were to the foot pegs. I've sat on the street triple and the footpegs felt similar to the Honda. I have size 12 feet so it might be something that I get used to and it isn't a problem but I don't know and I'm not sure I want to lay out a good few thousand to find out.

With all that in mind would I be silly to just stick with what I know and get the mt07 or are my thoughts about the street triple something that I'll soon get over?

Cheers guys. To be honest I've not been anywhere near the limit of what power the mt07 has so I'm not sure if I will need what the triumph has to offer for now.

The warranty isn't an issue, I doubt there will be any problems with either bikes but it's nice to have a factory warranty.

I'm in no great rush so I'll have a bit of a think about what to do.

Thanks for the assistance guys checking the insurance was a good idea, the triumph is about a third more expensive for me so I'm less keen on it now.

I've been watching reviews on you tube and most of them are all about the triple R so I might bide my time and get some experience on and MT07 then look to change in a couple of years. I'm sure the street triple is an awesome bit of kit but if it doesn't fit me then its no good. I know where I am with the MT07 so I know I'll enjoy riding it.

Decision made and unsurprisingly I have an MT07 in the garage. I've been out on it for a couple of hours this afternoon and loved it. When I've got some experience I will certainly be having a serious look at the Street Triple but I appreciate the thoughts and advice on this thread, cheers guys.
