I got a little carried away on an overtaking lane this Saturday, and got pulled over by the police who were sitting (rather visibly - embarrassingly enough) in a lay-by to my left which became visible once i got past the lorry i'd went past.

No arguments about being caught, my fault, the police were perfectly reasonable and rather personable, however they did explain that due to the speed i was doing (86mph) that i'd be receiving a summons to visit the Procurator Fiscal.

What am i likely to receive, i have currently got no points, however i was riding my rather Brightly colored motorbike at the time.

Should i look for legal representation for my day in court?

I think he'd mentioned it would have been an FPN under 84

I'm assuming worst case is probably 6 points and a means tested fine, If i get that i'll probably get rid of the bike for a few years, with 3 i'll just keep it and be a tad slower.

you won't be off to see the PF (roughly the scottish equivalent of the CPS doon south) you'll be up before the magistrates

suspect you're looking at 3-6 points and a fine - court seems to kick in at 26mph over the limit in a 40 and above

Not sure there would be much to gain by employing the services of a lawyer as that would cost a fair whack for what sounds like a straight forward speeding offence. However you could call a couple and see what they say at no cost initially.

I would wait to see what the summons say when it arrives
Fair enough, the officer specifically mentioned the PF (I'm in Aberdeenshire) however it might be that the summons is issued by the office of the PF and dealt with on the day by somebody else. As it's my first time i'm not sure what to expect.

Mate got busted at the same speed also from Aberdeen.

I believe he took legal advice, but I don't believe he was represented, just primed. Dressed like he actually gave a st, waited his turn, said his bit, and as above I think it was 6 points and a reasonable fine. It's not that bad.

Sorry if you have already said but where were you busted?
I was just outside of Huntly on the overtaking lane heading towards Keith, the one with the lay-by that almost always contains a police car. I'm stupid, i know. I'll try and arrange a mitigating letter from my employer as i am required to drive for my work, and then I'll look into the costs of getting a Solicitor and figure out whether or not it would be worth taking one on. As said previously i currently have a clean license so as long as they don't go higher than 6 points i should be alright. Very tempted to sell the sports bike for a tourer or a cruiser. I wonder if blaming my lovely new exhaust for egging me on would help.

Still no court letter, hoping they've forgotten somehow😂 nearly half way to getting away with it. No doubt it'll arrive 5 months after the offense so i've plenty time to get my hopes up.

Is your address up to date on your licence?

If not expect a knock on the door on a Friday really soon and a weekend at HRH pleasure.
It is, embarrassingly I also got a telling off for having 2 separate photocards on me. They are disposing of the one at my old address. I made sure that they had my address correct when they were doing their checks also.

It arrived, i'm going to have a chat with my next door bobby tomorrow, and get his opinion on how to proceed. Unfortunately i don't really have the immediate funds to go for a lawyer, i have the option to admit guilt by letter out of court, and hope that this is the best way to go about things. I'm just concerned about the possibility of a temporary ban, as this could endanger my job. If i were to opt for court i'd at least get a heads up on the date that this could possibly happen over and be able to book a few weeks off.

On an odd note they've got the speed down as 87 instead of the 86 that i was informed of at the time. Not that it matters i suppose, it's almost certainly just a rounding thing.

They never handed me anything when I left their vehicle. Are you meant to receive a ticket on the day also?

87 takes me to a perfect 45% over the limit also. No idea if that's significant

Strange attitude. Why do you have the bike if it is so easy to give up on it?
I never noticed this comment before, my bike is just a toy to me. I do love riding it however I am aware of my own faults, my license is needed for my work, and therefore a slower toy might be a better idea. Maybe a classic car/bike.

Its a 2008 zx6r, I was looking to trade it in for an MT07/9 anyway, as I find 14000rpm peak power and being geared to 86 in 1st impractical for fun road use.

I ended up just bringing the reply form to the Procurators office to plead guilty. We'll see what happens.

HOORAY,

My fine and points arrived today, amazingly i only received 3 points and £150.

It may have worked in my favor that i didn't offer any rubbish excuse or explanation, and just put in my Reply as quickly as possible.

Yeah, very relieved. I have resolved to move on from the sports bike and get something more suited to having fun at slightly lower speeds on bumpier twistier roads. Not that it would have prevented the ticket in this case but hey ho, it's a good excuse.

Maybe a Hypermotard 796 or Dorsodura 750 next.

That's a very good result!

I'd suggest a 800-1000cc v-twin, no need to rev the nuts off it to have fun.
I've had similar thoughts, i had a go on an SV650 and an MT07 but they felt a little flat to me. I'm going to be booking a test drive on the dorsoduro this coming Monday, and if it impresses i'll stick the zx6r up for sale. No rush though, i do still enjoy my bike it's just a little sad that Max power in first gear is reached above the national speed limit.
