The BB off-road thread
Discussion
I thought we could have a similar thread as the trackday thread but for those of us who ride off-road. Anything from green lanes, trials, motorcross, enduro or any mix of inbetween.
I'm hoping to get out a lot more on my KTM this year so would be good to meet more like-minded folks from here
I'm more enduro practice focused than anything but occasionally will play on an MX track and I'll aim to get the KTM MOT'd this year. No more riding for me until March as I don't want to risk injury before going to Spain
Over to you lot!
Oh and of course a photo because threads are better with pictures

I'm casually looking around for one to do a bit of enduro.
Best bet is keep trawling related facebook pages or gumtree and a bargain will come up. I managed to bag my KTM for approximately 20% under the market value by biding my time.Is there much in the way of enduro practices up your way?

Doing a moped endurance race at Weedon MX track in April.
Using the mighty TS
Then hopefully doing the KTM MX day at some point. Really considering taking up MX this year.
Awesome! Ever thought about doing the nifty fifty endurance? Quite a few people do both I think and it's a good laugh in the name of charity.Using the mighty TS

We have been using out Honda MT5 with a C90 motor in it for a few years now. 5 hour off-road event on anything from twist and go 50cc mopeds, C90's, hybrids like ours or Derbi senda's!

We've looked at doing it a few times but the dates have always clashed with other things. It's definitely on our radar though.
It's amazing how much fun you can have on a 50!
Wholeheartedly agree! Thrashing the pants off an old piece of crap is brilliant fun. If you manage to make it to any of the Nifty dates make sure you give me a shout It's amazing how much fun you can have on a 50!

A recent trail ride which started in Bangkok to Kanchanaburi on road, following day was a massive trail that runs all the way to the Burmese border. It went from wide open sandy/dirt trails to approx 15 water crossings, into some dense bamboo forests, to steep technical rutted single and double track all the way to the top of the mountain which is the military outpost for the Thais where the bike is parked (on the helipad) and that's the Burmese outpost in the background on the hill top.
Best trails I've ridden so far anywhere.
The trusty modified CRF250L never missed a beat. Plan on going back in a couple of weeks and tackling some other trails there but the clutch needs replaced first. Parts on order tho!
That looks fantastic! How legal is that type of riding there or is it a case of if it's ride able it's allowed? Best trails I've ridden so far anywhere.

Look forward to seeing more photos of your adventures
I'm already sorry as I type it but.... does anyone have recommendations for a road legal enduro tyre (18" rear) that doesn't cost the earth?
I'm not competing or planning to, but do want to get an MOT on the bike at last and do a few practice days and some green lanes. Very unlikely I'll often be on rock so over to you...

Gladly no, the conditions just getting into the car park looked bad enough there. It was the WTRA Snowrun up in Llandovery. It was supposed to have been 3rd Feb, but ironically it was cancelled due to snow, so it was this Sunday. Cracking day, but a bit of a baptism of fire have it as my first ever event, but good fun tho.

Yeah I saw lots of things on the facebook page where a number of people weren't happy, can't please everyone though!Eta posing picture
Nice work, how did you get on?
Good wheelie shot but looks a bit damp
Anyone local to Dorset fancy a bimble around at a track n trail next month?

I need to look at his suspension as i've not touched it yet. He's only ridden it three times so I was kind of dodging it till I saw if he was keen or not.
Just had a text off him and he's looking at pit bikes now, kid's,drive you up the bloody wall.
Definitely fiddle with the suspension first! Just had a text off him and he's looking at pit bikes now, kid's,drive you up the bloody wall.
As gazza said, mine was also set up too hard and going back to factory settings on the front alone helped on my KTM. Couldn't be arsed pulling the shock out to re-set the preload but it wasn't a million miles away.
I'm 5ft 10 with short legs and can struggle sometimes too but it's noticeably easier with slightly softer suspension.

It’s a great event Tom, well worth doing
Good to know Andy! Absolutely itching to ride the bike again. Hopefully I will have an MOT on it soon for a couple of green lanes as a couple of friends are making noises about finally getting around to using their recent purchases.

I’m sailing in Spain until the 5th and potentially in Monaco from the 7th but if by some miracle I’m at home then I will definitely be keen. I’ve only ridden the WR once on the road since we went out in January and have been thinking of selling it so think I need to ride it to change my mind!
Hope you get to come along, just drop me a PM or a message in here if you do and I'll keep an eye out for you. Didn't go to Cheddar Saturday as they were closed. Luckily a friend of mine has a farmer friend that prior to planting Maize in a field uses it as a practice track in the winter.
So 10 minutes up the road and a tenner later I had a couple of hours ripping around a flat field.
Weather conditions were fantastic but the track was a little loose from previous rides there. It got mentioned to the land owner and 5 minutes later he turned up in his tractor with a harrow attachment and regraded the whole track The grip levels immediately after were phenomenal compared to before!
Does any one know much about the KTM SXF 2006 model?
Reason I ask is google seems light on information and I'm trying to do some research as someone has offered one in a deal against my R1.
It's been made road legal with a certificate of conformity etc and has current MOT and front and rear lights fitted.
Anyone know common issues or weak points on this bike in particular (above and beyond an MX bike being highly strung for road use)?
Would the generator have needed to be changed to run the lighting kit that's fitted or is the original tough enough to cope?
thanks in advance

Team Ballbag took part in Moped Mayhem at the weekend, finished 6th in class, not too bad considered we spent 45mins repairing a broken throttle cable.
It was dusty, dirty, exhausting and bloody brilliant fun. Hopefully taking part in the next one
I was there for that! Finished 1st in class with a 2 lap lead, after loosing a 7 lap lead! It was dusty, dirty, exhausting and bloody brilliant fun. Hopefully taking part in the next one
As you say, was very dusty once the track dried out, very exhausting. We went for a 2 rider team doing 15 or so laps each at a time.
At around hour 3 the bike died on change over and wouldn't re start, took us almost 10 minutes of faffing and replacing the spark plug to get it going again.
Very excited for the next one.
Mopes can fly...
Me and a few pals have been doing the Nifty Fifty for 3 or 4 years now. It's great fun ringing the neck of a crap bike for hours on end isn't it?
