Hi guys - looking for some advice please.

I currently have a scooter that I use to go to the station every morning. its a Yam X-Max 250

It does the job well. But having not ridden for 15 years, I am getting the bug again!

Basically want to replace it - am between loads of things - BMW 600 scooter - or proper bike. maybe Harley (long term itch) or one of many other bikes.

My issue: I ride every day to the station. I dont want to take my lid on the train with me, hence the storage under the scooter's seat is great to leave it in.

If I buy a bike, eg harley XL 1200 sportster, I will probably chop the rear fender and go Bobber style.... But that leaves me with the problem of what to do with my helmet.

A top box would do - but would look awful. So is there any soft and waterproof type helmet bags atht you would recommend that I could put it in and lock to the bike - so the helmet doesn't get wet etc?

Or does a good one that really is waterproof just not exist ? what do others do?

really grateful for any help

Thanks Pothole - and Damn! yes , i am coming round to this fact I think, despite not wanting to. I dont really have the space (my wife wont let me!) have 2 bikes - but think the scooter does make more sense, and gives me better protection from the elements. train station is only one mile away.

This is a case of head over heart I guess!

Ok - any views on the BMW C600 / C650 scooter... that may be the way forward?

Thanks for the words of wisdom - I bought a BMW C650 GT at the weekend. lovely to ride.... heated seats and grips.
Only downside is its pretty heavy (in comparison to my XMax 250 !) for a one mile commute. But lets see how it goes....
Thanks

I can't believe anyone would buy something with an engine for a 1 mile commute. That's crazy. You could walk it in 20 mins at a gentle pace. Surely it must take at least half that time just to get the bike out, get some gear on, lock it at the other end?

I'd be using a fold up push bike, or a skate board.
I understand the sentiment, but for me time is of the essence. 3 mins from opening garage to standing on platform. to be fair, its probably a little over a mile, so not quite as bad as it sounds.

hahha - too true! That made me laugh.
Problem is cars are my bigger passion, and my garage already has a toy - and I dont want to do anything to jeopardise that!
