Went back to my indy dealer at 3000miles for a quick job - I leave the bike out of sight for 5 minutes max

Job done and he mentions I need new brakes - on the ride home I hear squeal for the first time

I ride fast but not crazy fast, the bike is a Multistrada 1260 - did I get done?

No he didn't, he just said I need new brakes and the same day I notice squeal for the first time. Just doesn't seem right after 3000 miles?? I've only been hard on the brakes in a few dodgy situations and a couple of times to test

I guess my paranoid mind went straight to something like he scraped them(???) so I buy new via him...

brand new from said dealer
he knows I'm a "car guy" also, not sure how he thinks I wouldn't be suspicious - but what realistically can be done in 5 minutes?

What make pads some EBC only last a few ooo miles and depends on bike weight and riding style
OEM Brembo brakes, I presume same pads

Sounds odd to me. Have you taken the pads out yourself and gave them a quick once over?
No but its about time I learn to do it myself. Have just arranged with a friend to look at them tomo wink

Can a dealer change pads out quickly in 5 minutes if he wanted to?

Fwiw my S1000R has just clicked over 3k miles and gets ridden pretty hard and I also carry a pillion from time to time to too.

I only checked the pads the other day (OEM in Brembo calipers) and they have a load of meat left on them.
cheers exactly what I wanted to know

If the noise has been "caused" by them, it's more likely just due to them disturbing something on inspection, rather than some sort of scam.
I don't get that tbh, from no noise to brake squeal after inspection doesn't sit well with me, FYI they changed the windscreen and seat setup

He could however have removed the anti squeal plates that sit across the back of the pads, checked the pad thickness and refitted the plates. If now disturbed or not quite in the right location this may cause squeaking
Interesting thanks

Unless I'm misunderstanding what dragging the brakes means I'm sure I'm not applying brakes and throttle at same time

Its the front brakes but its also hard to isolate the sound through the helmet. Will test tomorrow fully

You didnt say if it was front or rear..

I dont run race pads past 50% , becasue once they get proper hot , you can boil the fluid in no time.
Could just be that

I changed my first set of pads on my KTM 990 SMT at about 30000 miles. There was still plenty of life in them , but when I took them out the friction part and the backing plate had become detached from each other eek. They look very worn for such low mileage.
And I checked the average for my bike is 15-20k

No idea what's going for mine to be finished at 3000

@airsafari87
- my first original post. fast but not crazy fast. this is a fair description

Are you riding fast and braking late and hard everywhere?
- not late/hard braking intentionally

Are you a new rider that is maybe a little nervous and constantly comfort braking?
- yes - well over braking for a turn

Do you ride 'covering the brakes' all the time?
- no

Are you a proper big fat fat fatty and have been carrying a big fat fatty of a pillion as well as luggage for the past 3000 miles?
- subjective biggrin
ok about 100kg. maybe 100/150 miles with a pillion not heavy

Just occurred to me I wonder if these are Brembo pads ?
They have had lots of issues lately with pads crumbling and coming away from backing, so much so Triumph have done a recall.
I wonder if the compound is the issue, which could cause premature wear too?
Interesting
Brembo brakes I presume pads also
Edit: I also think I rely on the cornering ABS a lot
