The continuation of a worrying trend.

https://www.rideapart.com/news/659272/high-pyrenee...

Due to the noise emissions accompanying that two-wheeled tourism, not all Pyrenees communities appreciate the additional patronage, though. One such sector is Spain’s Natural Park of the High Pyrenees, and the Park has banned all internal combustion “motorcycles, quads, ATVs, and non-electric buggies all year round for noise protection reasons.”

The biking community really does only have itself to blame even though it's generally a small minority spoiling it for everyone.

Loud pipes wreck lives! frown

Both your thread title and the article you've linked to have a strong whiff of click bait.

If you look at the actual extent of Spain's Natural Park of The High Pyrenees (which I'm sure you've done, right?) you'll see that something a bit less attention grabbing, like "bikes banned from a tiny part of the Pryenees, but the vast vast majority of all Pyreneen routes completely unaffected" would be closer to the mark.

I don't disagree with your fundamental point though, that a lack of consideration for other people (or the perception of that) can lead to unintended consequences for more considerate enthusiasts tarred by the same brush.
We could easily argue semantics as the thread title is "in the Pyrenees" not "from the Pyrenees", but it's the principle that is important. There have already been bans in parts of the Alps and in parts of Germany. This is a trend that will destroy the things that many of us love. We really should be making those with loud pipes feel very uncomfortable because they are responsible. Inconsiderate selfish dick heads!

It depends how loud IMO

Some are extreme I agree but the noise of a bike / car add greatly to my enjoyment, it's one of the reasons I have no interest in electric vehicles
Dare I say, that's the point! I'm not saying your pipes are loud but too many bikers think only of their own enjoyment, ignoring the fact that loud pipes are NOT enjoyed by others and that the end result is that all bikers suffer?

Not really, many bikes are loud as standard - my 990SM is much louder than most modern bikes as standard

If the choice is keeping an older, louder bike or buying a newer near silent one, I'll stick with the older bike

Following your logic we should be silencing old bikes to modern standards as it will annoy less people

Overtaking cars annoys many too - maybe we should stop doing that as well
You are making my point beautifully! thumbup The fact your bike was louder when new doesn't stop it upsetting people. They don't care if it's old or new, it's just loud.

The question is are you happy with the real world consequences on other bikers because your older bike is loud?

Was considering putting an obnoxious can on my XR….might well wait until after June though. laugh

(plus I love it’s induction sound and am a little bit concerned it might be drowned out by a noisier exhaust)
As the route back is through Austria (described to me as Germany without the happy-go-lucky outlook! biggrin ) that may be a good idea!

All 3 of my bikes are loud, mainly because I enjoy the sound but it also helps people hear me before they see me - quite useful in sleepy Shropshire where people will pull out of junctions without looking.

The difference is, I won't sit there at traffic lights intentionally revving my engine like some idiots, I also tend to ride my bike as if I'm driving a car (i.e I won't pretend I'm Valentino Rossi) so the bike is never screaming.

I do have a problem with the unlicenced, uninsured motocross bikes that scream up and down my estate on their back wheel though. They just go up and down the same road constantly, how is that fun?!
I don't think justifying a loud bike by saying that you have an issue with others is the way to go. Whoever and for whatever reason, spoiling someone else's peace and quiet is a selfish act.

I think I’ve missed something. If a small number of people do something wrong, we need to ban everyone?

So for example, we need to ban passenger air travel, due to behaviour of some, usually intoxicated, passengers?
When it comes to motorcycling, and other minority past times, you are correct.
