All the best mate - just remember you can make as much noise as you like when you do your U-turn (I mean rev the nuts off the bike, don't scream).

I did my CBT 2 weeks ago. You really do have to be a right muppet to fail. No pressure then

Good luck gary & remal.

I'm doing DAS atm, go onto 600's next week & test in 3 weeks time. Counting days to 600's tbh, can't wait!

What bikes u guys thinking of getting, and what u gonna use them for?

Am looking at a bike for some thrilling fun... KTM 640 or Aprillia SVX. However also interested in Suzi GSR 600 and GSX-R750 so will see. Think I'll prob start on the KTM or similar to get really proficient on the road and in handling and then maybe progress. Will decide after test rides!!

What, you mean you can actually fail it then?

There was a Polish girl in our group when I did my CBT. She could barely speak a word of English, and was getting quite upset at not being able to grasp riding a scooter. There was simply no way she was going out on the road. The instructor was brilliant with her, very calm and softly spoken. Credit where it's due she gave it a good go, but just couldn't grasp the basics of balance, let alone anything else. She didn't 'fail' as such. The instructor recommended that she needed some extra one-to-one tuition. I wonder if she got through it in the end?
At the other end of the spectrum were two teenage lads. Both had scooters laying in wait as soon as they got home. All they talked about was how fast they'd go, and what mods they were going to make (all illegal of course!!!) I wonder if they're still alive!!!!

I had one failure on my course who came back for extra "road" work! I also had 2 scooter boys who's road sense was far from adequate to my experienced eyes. I am trying to remember when I got my first "bike" a FS1E years ago (unrestricted, of course ) - was I really that crap on the road. The answer, possibly, was yes (although I doubt it)!!!

Well, day one down and what a blast!!! It may only be a GS500 to anyone else, but to me it was a pure adrenalin rush.

Instructor "made" me overtake evrything on a dual carriageway at one point opening her up to reach 90mph. I have never, ever, ever felt such exhiliration before. Totally totally in love with biking and just cannot wait to pass my test on Monday and get my own machine.

On top of that I did about 6 U-turns without problems!!

So... really looking forward to days 2 and 3 and to becoming one of the fold!

Great stuff, oh, the memories!! Good news about the u-turns. Keep giving them a go at every chance. My instructor knew where the examiner would take us to do the u-turns, so we went to the spot and practiced.. A great help IMO.

[quote=remal]Ta. Just hope i keep my nerve. and get used to different controls.[/quote

Remember to cancel your turn signal rather than keep tooting the horn like I did when I switched from the 125 to the 500

Totally agree about relaxing!! As soon as you tense up nothing seems to work properly and the bike wants to stray wide in bends. Once you relax the bike seems to know what you want it to do!!

Well... third day of DAS today (in the pissing rain by the look of things) and loving it. Day two much better than day one as I was less concerned about "knowing" the bike and more able to relax and enjoy. 3 more U-turns with no probs and 2 emergency stops. I even managed 3 hill starts in third gear - not intnetionally though oops

I even got my first nod from another biker today - made me feel all gooey inside

All the best to everyone else doing their stuff!!

Sounds as if you're learning fast - well done! It really is the best feeling (well . . . one of the best . . . ahem!) and it doesn't really matter what you're riding or haow fast you're travelling. That sense of freedom, the nod from a fellow biker, the noise, the feeling of being part of the machine and the whole experience. Good luck with the rest of your journey - it just gets better and better . . . !

the gs500 I leanrned on scared the shit outa me! it was horrible I felt much happier and safer on my first bike a GSXR750. So it sound like you are off to a good start.

Mine is a bit wobbly at speed but not too bad. Hopefully my KTM Supermoto will be more chuckable

remember no pressure you can always take the test again(sure you wont need to). dont tense up and dont dwell on misstakes.

GULP! Yes... says to himself, "relax, relax, relax"
